With the expansion of college enrollment,the increase of the threshold of initial employment degree,the weakening of the value signal function of the undergraduate diploma in the labor market,and the current social trend of "graduate fever",many students choose to study for a master's degree to recharge their appreciation,and then improve their ability for better development.Under the influence of China's traditional culture and values,it is a natural and highly respected behavior for parents to provide help for their children's academic achievements.Therefore,even in the stage of master's education,differences in family social resources,parents' educational concepts and expectations will have varying degrees of impact on their children's motivation to pursue graduate studies.This paper is based on the family capital theory,motivation theory and rational choice theory,according to the family capital theory,the family capital questionnaire;According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory and related motivation scale,the scale of graduate school motivation is developed.In this study,stratified sampling was adopted.After considering the types and levels of colleges and universities,6 colleges and universities of different types in Nanjing area were selected,and the current academic master's students were selected as the objects of investigation.Through the data processing,analysis and integration of 892 valid questionnaires,the following conclusions are drawn:First of all,the current graduate student to graduate school motive diversification characteristics significantly,reading a graduate student to graduate school motivation can be divided into survival development-oriented type motive,external influence motivation,positive motivation and interests motivation of these four types,graduate school motivation intensity in developmental motivation for survival,positive motivation,interest motivation and outside influences motivation;Secondly,there are significant differences in graduate motivation in grade and school type,but no significant differences in gender and household registration.Graduate motivation can predict whether to continue to engage in academic research.Students with interest and hobby motivation are most likely to continue to engage in academic research.Finally,the three types of family capital have different effects on the motivation of postgraduate students.Family cultural capital has the strongest influence on graduate school motivation,followed by family social capital,and family economic capital has the least influence.Among the family cultural capital,the most influential factor is the family institutionalized cultural capital(parents' education level),followed by the family specific cultural capital(parents' active discussion with you about their academic status,parents' educational expectations for their children),and finally the family objective cultural capital(family book collection).Among the family social capital,the father occupation type has the greatest influence on the motivation of graduate school.Based on the above research conclusions,reasonable suggestions are put forward from four aspects: government,university,family and students.
