Group Social Work Intervention Study On Employment Of Mildly Intellectually Disabled Person

People with disabilities are a special vulnerable group that needs the care and assistance of the whole society.Employment for people with disabilities is the basis for ensuring that people with disabilities participate equally in social life and share the material and cultural fruits of society.The 19 th Party Congress emphasised that employment is the greatest livelihood,and that it is necessary to adhere to the employment priority strategy and active employment policy to achieve higher quality and fuller employment.In the development of building a moderately prosperous society on all fronts,paying attention to the employment of people with disabilities and ensuring that the disabled community shares the fruits of reform and opening up is not only a need for social progress,but also a reflection of the superiority of the socialist system.Firstly,this study reviews the existing results by systematically sorting out and analysing current domestic and international research on the employment of people with mild intellectual disabilities.In addition,through the research on the basic situation,current employment situation and predicament of persons with mild intellectual disability in Community H of Wuxi,it is concluded that there are different levels of individual and social needs in the employment of persons with mild intellectual disability.Secondly,the group social work practice was guided by the strengths perspective and the empowerment theory.The study started from the strengths perspective,abandoned the previous problematic perspective,explored the potential and strengths of persons with mild intellectual disability,searched for their strengths,empowered them and enhanced their self-confidence in employment;from the empowerment theory,the three levels of individual,interpersonal and community environment were empowered to ultimately enhance their employ ability from the inside out.Based on the two theories,the group programme was designed in the areas of strengths finding,empowerment,employment training,social support network and social integration,and specific group social work practices were carried out.The results of the study proved that considerable results were achieved in enhancing the interpersonal and vocational skills of the mildly mentally handicapped persons,and some group members successfully achieved employment.Finally,a summary and reflection on the practice and effectiveness of the group work method is presented,aiming to provide implications for the practice of group social work intervention in employment services for persons with mild intellectual disability.
