Practical Research On The PBL Teaching Mode Of High School Biology Based On ARCS Theory

In order to arouse students' motivation on learning,implement an efficient biology class and promote the development of students' key competence,this research attempts to integrate four elements of ARCS theory into the PBL(Problem-Based Learning)teaching mode,which is Attention,Relevance,Confidence,and Satisfaction.This paper explores effective ways for high school biology teaching,it is expected to provide some reference for the reform of current high school biology classes teaching and provide some ideas for teaching exploration of frontline teachers.Questionnaire,experimental methodology,interview and other methods have been used in this research,which has preliminarily explored on the application of the PBL teaching mode that based on ARCS theory in senior high school biology classes teaching.First of all,theoretical support has been received after reading some literature and researches.Combine with local teaching practice,interview with teachers and students in order to have an understanding on the status quo of teaching and learning on biology classes from the perspective of teachers and students.According to interview result,students think biology class is boring and with a low participation;students are mainly there for listening,and there are few discussions and analysis,and changes are expected to have for biology classes.In addition,teachers are mainly concerning about teaching goals and teaching content,they rarely pay attention to students' motivation;discussion and analysis are seldom organized on the class.At the same time,questionnaire has been used for pretesting their motivation level on biology studying among students in Grade 2.The result shows that students' motivation is at a general level in these four aspects: attention,relevance,confidence and satisfaction,among which confidence is the one with lowest score.Secondly,establish PBL teaching mode that based on ARCS theory according to status quo analysis,PBL teaching mode and motivate strategy.Last but not the least,choose a certain chapter from PEP(2019 version)optional compulsory course textbook 1 Homeostasis and Regulation and textbook 2 Organism and Environment,in order to conduct experiment and studies on PBL teaching mode that based on ARCS theory.Target of this study is students from two different classes at Grade 2.Experiment group and control group have been set: PBL teaching mode that based on ARCS theory is used for experiment group,while regular PBL teaching is used for control group.After experiment,post-testing has been conducted to test students' motivation level by using the method of questionnaire.The result of SPSS analysis shows that motivation to learn biology among students from experiment group has been significant improved at the aspect of attention and confidence;average score at four aspects have been improved and better than control groups.Pro-test and post-test have been conducted on key competences of biology among experiment group.Result shows that students' key competences on biology have significant improved at concept of life and scientific thinking;however,there is not evidently improved on scientific research and social responsibility.Posttesting has also been conducted on students' academic record,and its result shows that academic record from experiment group is significantly better than control group.Survey has conducted on students' feeling after class,which shows students are satisfied with class under this teaching mode;students feel their abilities on understanding and using knowledge of this course have been improved;their abilities on being conscious of questions are also better than before.According to interviews with teachers,it shows that experiment group are better than control group on aspects like performance,interaction between teachers and students and etc.Therefore,it has preliminary proved that the effect and practicability of PBL teaching mode based on ARCS theory in biology teaching of senior high school.Last but not the least,it has come to a conclusion that: integrate motivate theory of ARCS into PBL teaching,it can not only improve students' performance on classes,but also can arouse students' motivation on learning biology.And it can help promoting development of students' key competence on biology;it is also propitious to improve students' academic record on biology,which to a certain degree that it develops students' abilities on understanding and use of knowledge...
