Due to the increasing emphasis on the importance of mathematics, the cultivation of modeling competencies has become one of the most crucial goals in high school mathematics curriculum and instruction. In China, mathematical modeling has been incorporated into the mathematics teaching materials and teaching practice in high school. Moreover, for the compilation of mathematics textbooks and the design of teaching practice, the research on the status quo of high school students' modeling competencies is a significant basis.Taking " the evaluation of high school students' modeling competencies " as the core problem, the senior two students in province A were selected as the main research objects. For statistical analysis,SPSS,AMOS,and Excel were mainly used in this research. This research is carried out by comprehensive use of literature research method, questionnaire survey method, interview method and statistical analysis method.Constructing a multi-evaluation system of "combining macro and micro" and "complementing objective and subjective",this research systematically studies the modeling competencies and sub-competencies of senior two students in high school.Firstly,a framework for measuring modeling competencies of senior two students was constructed through literature analysis and expert interviews.Secondly,on the basis of the identified modelling framework, test papers and questionnaires were designed.Thirdly, the following aspects were investigated among senior two students in Province A:(i)the distribution of the levels of complete modeling competencies and subcompetencies;(ii)the differences in the modeling competencies of students in terms of gender and school;(iii)the relationship between modeling competencies and the three factors which are mathematics achievement, interest in learning mathematics and modelling psychology. Finally, the data were collated, coded and analyzed using statistical software to draw conclusions from this research. The results of this research showed that:(1)The framework of modeling competencies of students constructed from three dimensions: realistic context, mathematical content and task level,it is feasible in this research.Based on the framework, the assessment tools designed can evaluate the modeling competencies of students in a scientific and effective way.(2)The complete modeling competencies of senior two students is low.The model testing competence is particularly critical to the completion of students' modelling tasks. There is also some variability in the development of students' competencies: most senior two students' model hypothesis competence and model testing competence are seriously inadequate.(3)Little gender difference in students' modelling competencies;the school has a great influence on students' modeling competencies. At the same time, students' modeling competencies is affected to a certain extent by students' mathematics academic performance, mathematics interest and modeling psychology.
