The subject of history plays an irreplaceable role in enlightening students' wisdom,cultivating their comprehensive qualities and promoting their all-round development.In order to better play the role of the subject of history in the teaching of senior history,the Ministry of Education started the unified compilation of history textbooks for general high schools in2017.The compiled Chinese and Foreign History Compendium has been put into use in some provinces since autumn 2019,and the unified textbook presents different features and changes compared with the previous ones.Firstly,in terms of the preparation of the textbooks,the unified history textbook has adopted the model of "general history + thematic history",combining chronological and thematic aspects,while combining the characteristics of the previous textbooks.Secondly,in terms of the layout of the textbooks,many new sections have been added and new adjustments have been made to some of the existing sections,particularly in the textual support system.It is therefore necessary to analyse and study in detail the use of textual aids in the unified high school history textbooks.The textual support system in history textbooks contains many elements,but this article focuses on the "Inquiry and Extension" in the Outline of Chinese and Foreign History(above),and examines its application in teaching practice."It is a section of exercises at the end of each lesson for first-year students to consolidate what they have learnt in each lesson or to broaden their learning horizons.This article focuses on four aspects,starting with a detailed analysis of the "Inquiry and Extension" section of the Outline of Chinese and Foreign History(First)from three perspectives: content,classification and characteristics.It also discusses its role in stimulating interest in learning,consolidating knowledge,promoting changes in teaching and learning styles,cultivating core literacy in history and broadening learning horizons.Then,the principles of using the "Inquiry and Extension" section in senior history teaching are analysed from three perspectives: preparation before class,application in class and attention to problems,using the "Outline of Chinese and Foreign History" as an example.Finally,a combination of student questionnaires and teacher interviews is used to analyse the current situation of the application of the "Explore and Expand" section in senior history teaching,and to analyse the reasons for the shortcomings of the section from the perspectives of teachers and students,and to make further suggestions for improvement.It is hoped that the research in this paper will provide some guidance on the application of the "Inquiry and Expansion" section of the unified history textbook "Outline of Chinese and Foreign History" in senior history teaching,so that "Inquiry and Expansion" can play its unique role in teaching.
