The mountainous settlements in Qiandongnan Prefecture are the important material carriers of minority culture in southeastern Guizhou.The research on mountainous settlements in Qiandongnan is of great value in the research and reservation of local cultural material forms,as well as the protection of local regional culture and the renewal and development of settlements.For a long time,the study of traditional settlements province area more than in a national perspective,or the angle of disciplines such as geography province traditional settlements on the macroscopic research of the distribution or disciplines such as communication angle in the perspective of a single village,the mountain settlement as a unit in province area,the study of settlement spatial form of law in the region are rare.Based on the field participation in the investigation of mountain settlements in Qiandongnan,this paper calculates and analyzes the fractal dimension of the plane spatial form of mountain traditional settlements in Qiandongnan by using the box counting dimension method in fractal theory,and explores the research of traditional settlements in this area from a new perspective.Typology originated from the exploration of nature.Its essence is the further cognition of nature and the analysis of the morphological characteristics of things.It has a certain application in the study of settlement morphology all over the world.The mountain settlements in Qiandongnan are closely related to their natural environment.The application of fractal theory has certain value in the study of settlement spatial form in this area.Box counting dimension method is a common method to study the relationship of plane graphics in fractal theory.In the study of settlement space form,box counting dimension is the quantitative index of its structural degree.In this paper,after the selected ten typical mountain settlement samples in Qiandongnan are classified according to physical and geographical factors,the fractal dimension values of the samples and the geographical patterns are calculated and summarized at a certain scale level by using MATLAB software and the Fraclab plug-in of the software,and then interpreted at different levels.Combined with the comprehensive analysis of geographical form and region,the results show that the fractal dimension of the spatial form of mountain settlements in Qiandongnan is significantly different in different geographical environments,but mainly shows similar self-organization in similar geographical environments;The mountain settlements in Qiandongnan generally show differences at the larger scale level,but show similarities at the smaller scale level;In the settlements formed by different types of clusters,the parts with high self-organization and self similarity dominate the whole.Finally,based on the above analysis and the status of Chinese rural development,it is concluded that exploring the internal logic of the spatial form of traditional settlements from the perspective of classification theory is helpful to reserve the cultural feature of traditional settlements in the development and construction of traditional villages.By studying the fractal characteristics of traditional mountain settlements in Qiandongnan and its significance at the settlement level,this paper hopes to supplement the existing research and provide reference for modern rural construction and human settlements.
