With the vigorous rise of a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, the demand for high-level applied talents in society continues to expand.China’s engineering education bears the new responsibility and mission of providing talent and intellectual support for China’s and even the world’s industrial development, which puts forward more comprehensive requirements for the cultivation of engineering talents in Chinese universities. As the largest professional degree in China at present, the Master of Engineering degree was clearly defined as a professional degree related to the qualifications in the engineering field at the beginning of its establishment. Its training goal is to cultivate applied and composite high-level engineering and technical talents with systematic professional knowledge, comprehensive quality, strong engineering practice ability, and certain innovative ability,However,at present, after graduating from China’s engineering master’s degree,it is still necessary to take vocational qualification exams to obtain corresponding vocational qualifications, and when applying for the exam,it may also face the requirement of a certain number of years of employment, which to some extent increases the training costs. How to achieve the integration of engineering master’s training and vocational qualifications has become an important topic in the training of engineering talents in the new era.Based on the results oriented education theory and competency theory, the research explores the connection between engineering master’s training and vocational qualifications.Firstly,by combing relevant literature, explore the current research situation at home and abroad and review it.Secondly, through a comparative research method, this paper compares the talent capacity structure of engineering masters and engineers, and explores the necessity and feasibility of connecting the two in combination with the background of the times. On this basis,it analyzes the current situation of the connection between the two and explores the barriers that exist between them. Finally, through the case study method,in-depth analysis of relevant models at home and abroad was conducted, and some inspiration was obtained, and countermeasures and suggestions were proposed to optimize the connection between engineering master’s training and professional qualifications. The study found that at this stage,China’s engineering master’s training and professional qualifications as a whole have not yet formed a link, and the barriers between the two mainly include the following aspects: First, the professional qualification system for engineers has not yet been improved.Secondly, the professional certification system for engineering masters needs to be improved.Thirdly, universities and industry associations have failed to form cooperation in the training process.Based on the analysis of relevant models at home and abroad,it is found that in order to achieve a good connection between the two,it is necessary to establish a scientific cooperation mechanism from various forces such as the government, industry associations, universities, etc. The connection between the training of engineering masters and their professional qualifications is an inevitable trend in the development of both. The research puts forward suggestions on the connection between the two from three aspects: “ improving the professional qualification system of engineers in China ”,“ improving the professional certification system of Master of Engineering”,“clarifying the functional orientation and forming an integrated cooperative training system with Chinese characteristics”.
