This thesis is a selected translation report on Hybrid Warfare: Future and Technologies,a military science and technology text(MEST)written by Ralph Thiele. The book presents the idea of hybrid warfare, discusses strategies for encountering it,and places special attention on how technology developments enable hybrid warfare.Excerpts by the translator from the foreword, preface, summary, chapter 1,appendix 1 and appendix 4 outline the background and current state of hybrid warfare and go into great detail about the significant role that technology, particularly 5G technology and artificial intelligence, play in hybrid warfare. It is hoped that this translation pratice would help military experts who are interested in hybrid warfare and military technology.Guided by Professor Hu Gengshen’s Eco-translatology,the translator adopts selective transformation in the source text from three dimensions: linguistic, cultural, and communicative,so as to achieve an ecological balance in translation. In terms of the linguistic dimension, the translator uses translation methods like lexical conversion, augmented translation, meaning translation, and active-passive conversion to overcome challenges in the translation process, such as polysemous words, nominalization and passive voice. Thus, the translation can conform to Chinese expression habits. In the cultural dimension, the translator uses the four-character and idiomatic translation approach to express the cultural connotation of the original text in light of the cultural differences and cultural default. As for the communicative dimension, the problem of information redundancy and information deficiency is solved by omission and addition respectively,so as to achieve selective transformation of communicative intent and achieve an ecological balance between the original text and the target text. After this translation practice, the translator finds that the Eco-translatology has a positive effect on the translation of military English for science and technology texts with hybrid warfare themes, and hopes to provide some reference for translators who translate such text in the future.
