A Report On The Translation Of Environment And Economy(Chapter 5)

For a long time,environment and economy are closely related.However,due to human’s ill use of resources,mutual promotion between environment and economy gradually turned into a vicious cycle.How to manage their relationship and find feasible policies becomes an immediate priority.Nevertheless,practice needs the guidance of research theories.Before trying to establish a scientific plan,we should firstly choose the right research method.Environment and Economy,written by Molly Scott Cato,published by Routledge in 2020,illustrates findings of various economics in their research of environment issues.Moreover,the writer of this book who worked for the European Union offers some suggestions about economic policy making.This translation report is developed on the basis of translating the fifth chapter of Environment and Economy,Ecological Economics and contains four parts:translation task,translation process,case analysis and conclusion.The first part mainly gives an introduction to the writer,the book and significance of choosing this topic.The second part includes translation process,translation tools and translation theories.Based on the subject and stylistic features of the original text,the translator employs Tytler’s Three Principles of Translation in this translation practice.In view of the translation theory,the third part analyses cases from lexical,syntactic and textual aspects.The fourth part is conclusion which expounds the author’s gains and experience.After this translation practice,the author of the report comes to the following reflection:Firstly,when using Tytler’s Three Principles of Translation to guide translation practice,in order to be faithful to the source text,the translator should be able to recognize polysemous words and choose the right meaning.Secondly,long difficult sentences can be succinct through deconstruction.Thirdly,keeping the original writing techniques is advisable,especially when a pronoun in the source text is ambiguously referenced,therefore,the translator can avoid over-interpretating and maintain the author’s writing style.In this translation practice,the author of the report endeavors to faithfully reproduce the academic theories and advanced ideas in the source text and make contributions to disseminating practical professional views in the source text.
