Since the emergence of Impressionism in the 1960s,personalization and abstraction have made non reproducibility a trend in Western painting.One of the more distinctive features is that color no longer pursues visual reality,but has a tendency of planarization.The following painting schools,such as Nabi school,Fauvism,expressionism and abstractionism,have actively explored the flat color language.The artists of these painting schools dare to challenge the authority,seek breakthroughs,and finally form their own unique color language in painting creation.Bonnard is a very representative in the exploration process of flat color language.Therefore,the study of "flat color" in Bonnard’s paintings can not only understand the important role of color in Bonnard’s paintings,but also have some enlightenment on the use of flat color in paintings.This paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter first defines the planarization color,then traces the origin of the planarization color of Nabi school,summarizes the characteristics of the planarization color of Nabi school,and highlights the unique visual charm of Bonnard’s planarization color.In the second chapter,through the collation and analysis of Bonnard’s paintings,it is found that the planarized color,as the most important element in his paintings,affects the performance of other painting elements such as composition,form and space,showing the characteristics of "freedom and order","analysis and reconstruction","Deconstruction and reorganization" respectively.The third chapter,through the influence of Bonnard’s planarized color on Henri Matisse,the representative of Fauvism,Paula modesonbecker,the pioneer of expressionism,and Vassily Kandinsky,the father of abstract painting,shows that Bonnard’s planarized color has a relatively strong vitality.The fourth chapter,through painting practice,explores and studies the planarized color in Bonnard’s painting,and reflects on how to express the personalized planarized color in the process of painting.
