| This practical report is based on the consecutive interpretation of the Tales of Chinese Traditional Culture video series from Chinese to English that the author interpreted for a Serbian guest Mr.Stahinja Djokovic on September 30th,2022.Guided by the Interpretive Theory, the author analyses the practical content through case analysis and found that there are several difficulties in the Chinese-English consecutive interpretation of Chinese tales, including the lack of counterparts of the proper nouns, semantic discrepancy in the culture-loaded words and expressive complexity in allusions. The author carefully analyses interpretation techniques such as addition, omission, and paraphrasing, aiming to convey the meaning of the source language completely and truthfully.Through this report, the author hopes to summarise the interpretation techniques so that it can better handle the difficulties encountered in the proper nouns,culture-loaded words and allusions. The report is divided into four chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces the background and significance of the task. The second chapter explains Interpretive Theory proposed by Danica Seleskovic and Marianne Lederer, and describes the interpretation process. The third chapter, the case analysis,is the main chapter of the report. In this chapter, guided by Interpretive Theory, the author analyses the problems encountered from three levels:comprehension, deverbalisation, and reformulation. The author also analyses how to use interpreting techniques to deal with practical problems encountered in the consecutive interpretation process and the interpretation techniques used by the author in the interpretation process. The final chapter is the practical summary, which describes the main findings of the author’s interpretation process, the limitations and suggestions of this practice based on the main problems encountered in this practice. |
