The stylistic features of business news on Forbes.com are different from that of Chinese news.Specifically,the former uses common words and complex sentences in the professional context,while the latter prefers the professionalism of language and simple sentence structure.Therefore,the translation of English business news inevitably involves the transformation of the two news styles and the acceptability.Besides,as an intern,the author’s supervisor repeatedly requests the high readability of the translation.In such case,aside from being faithful to the source text,a new standard of “readability” should be introduced into the translation at the expression level.The first chapter of this report is an introduction.In chapter 2,it first gives an overview of the readability its definitions and existing studies.It then proposes the two related indicators—comprehensibility and information transmission of and two main factors—text type and stylistic feature that affect the readability.In the case study,based on the two core indicators and two main factors,this chapter explores the solutions to improving translation readability at the levels of lexis,syntax and discourse.It is found that readability of proper nouns and common words in professional use is that the former facilitates information transmission and the latter reflects the professionalism of expression.At the syntax level,the structure of“modifier+noun”,instead of being rigidly followed,should be transformed if necessary;News title translation follows a certain formula in form and content.Finally,the discourse level concerns the issue of cohesion.By “integrating information” and using fixed phrasing or expression pattern and punctuations to facilitate cohesion,the logic of translation is clearer and transmission of information is more orderly.This report explores solutions to improving translation under the guidance of readability in order to help translators gain a deeper understanding of business news language. |
