A Report On Historical Book Translation From The Perspective Of Explicitation

This report takes Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 of England in the Age of Austen as research materials and adopts the methods of case study,textual analysis and literature review to sort out the current situation of research on history books and explore the characteristics of the project texts.With specific translation cases,it illustrates how the theory of explicitation solves the jargon,abstract concepts and long and difficult sentences encountered in the translation process,eliminating the barriers to expression and achieving the goal of disseminating historical knowledge and enhancing readers’ reading experience.The study finds that the theory of explicitation can help translators to better present the information that the author wants to convey to the readers in the translation process.For translating jargon,the use of concept explicitation can be used to express relevant professional knowledge and background information in the form of explanatory notes;for translating abstract concepts,word extension and concretization of abstract concepts can help readers better receive the information and make the translation more consistent with the expression habits of the target language;for translating long and difficult sentences,logic explicitation techniques such as explicitation of pronouns,logical conjunctions and structural adjustments can make the structure and expression of the translation clearer and more accurate,and allow readers to follow the translation.The above experience obtained from the translation practice will be useful for future translations of the same type of text.
