A Chinese-English Translation Practice Report On Construction Contract Of Hotel Renovation Project

This thesis is a C-E translation practice report.The original text is “Construction Contract on Hotel Rejuvenation Reconstruction”,which is provided by Sichuan Huazhi Dongjie Construction Co.,Ltd.It consists of the scope and content of the project,construction period requirements,technical requirements,quality and payment methods,and other articles.In the process of translation,the author utilizes Tmxmall and Twinslator to assist translation,establishes the corresponding termbase(TB)and translation memory(TM),refers the parallel corpus,concludes the differences between Tmxmall and Twinslator in terms of mechanic translation,extracts the better translation works to artificial revision,and completes the post-translational tasks.After the completion of translation,the author summarizes this translation practice under the guidance of Reiss’ s Text Typology Theory.This thesis consists of six chapters: introduction,task description,translation process,theoretical basis,case study and conclusion.The first chapter introduces the source of the translation material,the significance of the translation and the structure of this thesis.The second chapter elucidates project source,project character and client requirements.The third chapter mainly discusses the pre-translation,while-translation,and post-translational tasks.The forth chapter introduces Reiss’ s Text Typology Theory,her understanding of text classification and theory application in this translation.The fifth chapter are case studies.Based on Reiss’ s Text Typology Theory and her translation criteria toward informative texts,this thesis discusses the translation methods.At the lexical level,literal translation,free translation and word borrowing are used to deal with terms in the source language.At the syntactic level,division,combination and addition are used to tackle non-subject sentences and long and difficult sentences in Chinese.At the textual level,coherence and cohesion are adopted to keep the overall logic of the target text and to make it conform to English expression habits.The sixth chapter summarizes the benefits and limitations of this translation practice.To sum up,this thesis,based on the Reiss’ s Text Typology Theory,focusing on the translation of Construction Contract of Rejuvenation Reconstruction,taking cases in practice as examples,putting forward different translation methods from the perspective of vocabulary,syntax and text to deal with problems encountered in translation,hoping to provide specific references for translating construction contracts in the future.
