A Report On The Simulation Of Consecutive Interpreting(C-E) For 2021 Premier Li Keqiang’s Press Conference Under The Guidance Of The Interpretive Theory

This paper reports on a simulated interpretation task guided by the Interpretive Theory of the Paris School.The interpreter selected the Chinese-English interpretation content in the press conference of Premier Li Keqiang taking questions from Chinese and foreign journalists in March 2021 as the research object.The interpreter strictly followed the process of the press conference and conducted the interpreting task with a focus on analyzing the difficulties involved in consecutive interpretation.By using interpreting methods and skills under the guidance of Interpretive Theory,the interpreter aimed to deal with the expression effectively.This press conference is for a global audience,covering topics such as economy,people’s livelihood,employment,pandemic and so on.The language used in the press conference was formal and vivid,but it also contained a lot of expressions with Chinese characteristics.According to the above characteristics and content,the difficulties of this simulation interpretation are mainly reflected in the following two aspects.First,there are many long and complex sentences in this simulation interpretation task.Second,the content of the information is complex.Third,it is difficult for the interpreter to understand all information quickly and accurately.Therefore,in order to minimize the impact of the source language’s difficulty on the quality of interpretation,the interpreter utilized computer-aided tools and online corpora to prepare for the interpretation.Another major difficulty in this interpreting task is how to use Interpretive Theory to interpret long and complex sentences,as well as language with Chinese characteristics.To address this challenge,the interpreter mainly utilized literal translation and free translation,along with three interpreting skills: information supplement,omission,and sentence reorganization.Finally,the conclusions are as follows:First of all,to ensure interpretation quality,adequate pre-interpreting preparation was found to play a crucial role.Additionally,different translation methods and skills should be used according to specific sentences to achieve the ideal effect.The ultimate goal of this simulation interpretation task is to facilitate the accumulation of practical experience for the interpreter,and provide guidance for future interpreters.
