With the advancement of globalization, science and technology have developed rapidly.Scientific and technological translation,as a powerful tool,is applied to strengthen technical exchanges and share technological achievements. The translator attempts to explore the guiding translation skills from the perspective of Linguistic Adaptation Theory.Based on translation practice, this report focuses on the style and language characteristics of academic papers in science and technology,so as to further deepen theoretical research as well as to clarify the evaluation system of translation practice. This report is a summary of the C-E translation practice on two academic papers in geography science, namely Remotely-sensed Surface Water Fraction Estimation:Current Status and Perspective, and Resolution Enhancement of Remotely Sensed Land Surface Temperature:Current Status and Perspective. In the translation process, through the "Adaptation Theory",the translator believes that the translation of the technical texts, not only the use of words but also the understanding of discourses, should adapt to the needs of the target language.Meanwhile, the translator combines the reading habits and reader’s cognition to adapt to the target language logic. The two papers, with large amounts of data determined, picture the stimulus of the remote sensing technology on the examination of the surface water aad land surface temperature.Vocabularies, sentence patterns and language styles in the papers are of technical texts, which has a certain representative of the research on the translation of academic papers.Translation background and translation process are firstly introduced in order to sort out the problems that arise in translating and lay the foundation for case analysis.Secondly, the Linguistic Adaptation Theory proposed by Jef.Verschueren is adopted to analyze typical cases from two aspects:the perspectives of structural adaptation and communicative adaptation. To summarize the translation strategies and techniques of academic papers under the guidance of Adaptation Theory, structural adaptation is explored from the views of vocabularies, sentences and chapters, and communicative adaptation is analyzed from the social level and physical level.Studies have shown that feasible translation methods such as free translation, amplification, omission and intext note need to be taken into consideration when translating, striving to express the texts appropriately and to convey the text information accurately. Finally, the translator evaluates the translation process, and concludes the gains and shortcomings, hoping to provide reference to the translation in this field.
