Abstract/Summary:
The aggression of adolescents has always been a topic of concern both domestically and internationally.According to the general theory of aggression models, the influencing factors of aggression include individual factors and situational factors, among others.Mindfulness,as an important positive trait of an individual, emphasizes attention and awareness of current feelings, and non critical acceptance of various emotions and ideas.Previous studies have demonstrated the positive effect of mindfulness on aggression.Self threat,as a situational factor, arises from the difference between people’s current self perception and their ideal self perception. When self threats occur, people often choose to evade or attack to cope. This study is based on previous research and aims to explore whether high mindedness can act on this cross situational factor to reduce aggression in the event of self threat. Therefore, based on relevant theoretical and empirical research, this study examines the relationship between mindfulness and explicit and implicit aggression among vocational school students, and further compares the differences in explicit and implicit aggression among vocational school students with different mindfulness levels in the presence or absence of self threat situations.Study 1 took 400 secondary vocational students as subjects, and used the five-factor mindfulness scale, the Chinese revised version of the Buss-Warren Aggression Scale, and the Implicit Association Test(IAT)to investigate the secondary vocational students’ mindfulness, explicit aggression, implicit The status quo of aggression, and explore the relationship between the level of mindfulness and explicit and implicit aggression. The results showed that there were significant differences in gender in the total score of explicit aggression of secondary vocational students, boys scored higher than girls, and there was no significant difference in whether they were only children or where they were born;Significant negative correlation, but not significantly related to implicit aggression;the three dimensions of consciously acting, observing, and describing are directly related to explicit aggression, and can predict explicit aggression.Study 2 was based on Study 1,and by introducing self-threat variables,297 secondary vocational students were selected as subjects, and 27% of subjects with high and low scores before and after were screened out. Finally, the number of subjects participating in the follow-up experiment was 136..The experiment adopted a 2(mindfulness level: high/low)× 2(self-threat situation: yes/no)two-factor design between subjects, using the five-factor mindfulness scale to screen subjects with high and low levels of mindfulness,"point estimation task" To induce self-threat,the level of mindfulness and self-threat situation are independent variables, and the dependent variables are explicit aggression(measured by the grade assigned by hot sauce)and implicit aggression(measured by IAT effect value of Implicit Association Test),further exploring the level of mindfulness Mechanisms related to the influence of self-threat on overt and implicit aggression. The results showed that: on overt aggression, the main effect of mindfulness level was significant, and the overt aggression score of the low level of mindfulness group was significantly higher than that of the high level group;the main effect of self-threat situation was significant, and the score of overt aggression in the self-threat group was significantly higher than that of no self-threat group;the level of mindfulness and self-threat situation interacted with overt aggression, the overt aggression of secondary vocational students with low mindfulness level in self-threat situation was significantly higher than that in no self-threat situation, and the high level of mindfulness There was no significant difference in explicit aggression between those born in self-threatening situations and those without self-threatening situations;on implicit aggression, the main effect of mindfulness level was not significant;the main effect of self-threatening situations was not significant;the relationship between mindfulness level and self-threatening situations There is no interaction for implicit attacks.According to the research results of Study 1 and Study 2,the following conclusions are drawn:(1)Mindfulness of secondary vocational students is significantly negatively correlated with explicit aggression, but not significantly correlated with implicit aggression;mindfulness can better predict explicit aggression.(2)For individuals with low mindfulness, when there is self-threat,the overt aggression is significantly higher than that without self-threat;for high-mindfulness individuals,no matter whether there is self-threat,the difference in overt aggression is not significant.(3)Individuals with high and low mindfulness had no significant effect on implicit aggression in situations with or without self-threat.
