Disfluency In Spanish-Chinese Consecutive Interpretation And Coping Strategies

Fluency is an important criterion for assessing the quality of interpretation.However,disfluency is common in interpretation.This thesis is a case study based on the mock conference of Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development 2021.In this study,the author will analyze the disfluencies in SpanishChinese consecutive interpretation and put forward corresponding coping strategies.First,based on previous studies,the author classifies the disfluencies in the case into three categories: pauses,repeats and self-repairs.Secondly,through the case study,the author lists several causes of the disfluencies,including inadequate pre-translation preparation and insufficient extralinguistic knowledge,listening and comprehension difficulty of long sentences and numbers,invalid notetaking without enough logic,bad habits of expression and tardiness of expressing in target language.Finally,this thesis puts forward possible solutions to disfluencies in interpretation:paying more attention on preparations and enriching extralinguistic knowledge,training listening and comprehension ability,improving note-taking system,keeping the tempo at a moderate rate,improving flexibility of the target language and accumulating bilingual chunks.
