The 2020 New Crown pneumonia epidemic spread around the world, and this global public health emergency has tested the governance capacity of governments around the world and become a field of competition between major powers in terms of gaming and discourse. The New Crown epidemic and the series of events it triggered were undoubtedly a global crisis event. The outbreak of the epidemic has brought a profound impact on the governance systems of countries and regions around the world, and the international public opinion is full of rumors and attempts to disturb the truth about China’s fight against the epidemic. Some Western media used terms such as "Chinese virus" and "Wuhan pneumonia" to stigmatize China’s national image. In such an international environment,CGTN released the documentary "Wuhan Epidemic Chronicle" to show the world the real picture of China’s fight against the epidemic. The documentary received wide attention from the international community. Many of these overseas audiences responded with very rich and realistic views of China’s national image after watching the documentary. So,which dimensions of identification with the national image are reflected in this series of commentary texts? Which dimensions contribute to the positive identification of China’s national image? This is the question that this paper needs to explore and address. This study selects the real evaluation texts of overseas audiences of Wuhan War Epidemic Chronicle on China’s national image as research materials and adopts the research method of rooted theory to conduct an in-depth analysis and research on the review texts. After open coding, spindle coding and selective coding,it was finally found that overseas audiences positively identified with China’s international influence, humanitarian spirit, ability to deploy resources, and medical support system;and negatively identified with China’s environmental protection, the world economy’s heavy hit,and the free space of information.Furthermore, researchers draw on theories such as media trust, symbol theory, and stereotypes to analyze and believe that the factors that promote the positive identification of China’s national image are concentrated in the following three aspects: firstly, multi subject narrative and multi-dimensional narrative make the national image three-dimensional;Secondly,a shared emotional space helps promote emotional identity;Thirdly, the construction of media rituals promotes the transmission of common meaning and helps to build a unified national image and identity. The negative tendencies that lead to identification with China’s national image are manifested in the following four aspects: firstly, the lack of media trust leads to the credibility of official propaganda;Secondly, the construction of war metaphors activates ideological conflicts;Thirdly, stereotypes deepen negative identification with China’s national image;Fourthly, cultural differences and symbolic barriers lead to negative interpretations of China’s national image.
