With the progress of the age and social changes,innovation has become an important propellant for national progress and development,and how to innovate forms of education and cultivate creative talents is an important proposition given to countries by the times.Design thinking,which originated in the field of design,has evolved to play a role in many fields,including education.There is an interdependent relationship between design and innovation,and the concept of design thinking,with design activities as its core,can effectively cultivate students’ creativity,so the integration of design thinking and education is gaining more and more attention in the field of education.Open-source hardware and software,as compatible,shared teaching platforms,can provide new ideas and forms of teaching and learning,and effectively cultivate students’ innovative abilities.However,instruction in open-source software and hardware is still in its infancy and lacks theoretical guidance.Therefore,incorporating design thinking concepts into open-source software and hardware education is of positive significance to improve the teaching status of open-source software and hardware courses and promote the development of the courses,as well as to effectively cultivate students’ creativity.In this research,the design thinking concept is integrated into the curriculum teaching of open-source hardware and software as a guiding idea,and the Arduino open-source hardware platform and Linkboy software are used as the carrier of the curriculum.Based on the analysis of the mainstream design thinking framework,a design thinking oriented high school open-source software and hardware curriculum teaching framework is constructed,the teaching process is sorted out,teaching activity strategies are summarized,and three thematic,nine-lesson lessons are designed and implemented.This research also analyzes and organizes the current state of research on design thinking and open-source software and hardware,and defines the concept of related concepts.The degree of fit between design thinking and open-source software and hardware curriculum is summarized,and the feasibility of integrating design thinking with open-source software and hardware to foster students’ creativity is noted.Identified the theoretical foundations of constructivist learning theory,"learning by doing" theory,and discovery learning theory.Then analyzed the mainstream design thinking typical framework in the world,and determined the five sessions of teaching framework of design thinking orientation in this study based on comparison,synthesis and reference,which are exploring the problem session,defining the theme session,conceptualizing the solution session,prototyping session,and communicating and evaluating session.The framework was also developed with the help of the design thinking tools,and the teaching organization strategies for each session were filled in the framework.Based on the design thinking-oriented open-source software and hardware teaching framework,the high school open-source software and hardware curriculum was designed based on the actual situation of the S Senior High School where the practice was conducted,with three themes: "curriculum and skills preparation,smart home introductory project,and smart home advanced project".The curriculum of Theme 1 includes three lessons: software and programming,hardware mystery,and design thinking process to prepare the knowledge and skills for the subsequent implementation of the curriculum.In Theme 2,the five components of the design thinking framework are divided into three lessons to guide students through the complete design thinking process in context and help them learn to design and produce projects in Theme 2 with the help of thinking tools and strategies.In the teaching of Theme 3,the same five sessions are used as the flow of teaching activities,giving students a higher degree of freedom to guide them to complete the innovation and production of their works with the help of design thinking process and strategies in the real situation.A pre-and post-test experimental study was conducted with the help of the Williams Creativity Tendency Scale to assess the level of change in students’ creativity,and to record the information generated by students during the teaching process to assess the actual effectiveness of the teaching.Finally,a reflective summary of this research was conducted to provide an outlook on the design thinking and open-source software and hardware curriculum.The results of this research show the practicality and correctness of integrating design thinking concepts with open-source hardware and software.By building a design thinking oriented curriculum,it breaks the teaching model of students’ one-dimensional imitation and provides teachers with teaching cases to learn from,while fully utilizing the superiority and technology of open-source platforms.The practice shows that design thinking oriented open-source software and hardware courses can better take students as the main subject of learning,stimulate their interest in learning,and better cultivate their creativity and innovation ability. |
