| Since the advent of drugs and tools related to reproductive technology, fertility is no longer an uncontrollable natural force, but a rational behavior that individuals can control and plan independently.Fertility desire has become an important category in the study of demography. In recent years, the domestic fertility rate has continued to decline. After the introduction of a series of population policies committed to improving the fertility rate, the trend of declining fertility rate has not been changed, this phenomenon has attracted great attention from all walks of life.According to China’s unique urban-rural dual structure, the author tries to make a comparative study on the fertility desire of urban and rural women of childbearing age. From both quantitative and qualitative perspectives, the author found that:(1)There are differences in fertility desire between urban and rural women of childbearing age;(2)Traditional ideas have a great influence on the fertility desire of rural women of childbearing age;(3)Occupational factors have a great impact on the fertility desire of urban women of childbearing age;(4)Economic factors have different effects on fertility desire of women of childbearing age in urban and rural areas;(5)Unpaid and unequal housework reduced the fertility desire of women of childbearing age in urban and rural areas;(6)Fertility desire of women of childbearing age in urban and rural areas is greatly affected by public service. Therefore, the author believes that the current low fertility desire is not completely determined by personal factors but dominated by social factors, which means that the intervention of fertility desire needs social forces, especially the support of social policy. |
