With the release of the General High School Music Curriculum Standards(2017Edition)by the Ministry of Education, aesthetic perception, artistic expression and cultural understanding have become the direction and guidance for developing music literacy in high school students.Cultivating these three core literacies has become the focus of high school music teaching,of which aesthetic perception is the key to core literacy in the subject of music. How to develop students’ core literacy then becomes a matter of concern for teachers and researchers. This paper explores this issue in the context of the ’Zone of Proximal Development’ proposed by the Soviet educator Vygotsky."The ZPD focuses on the development of students’ learning potential and calls for teachers to pay attention to the gap between students’ current and potential abilities. As a result, the ZPD as a teaching concept should be popularised in every teacher’s teaching practice.Based on the above background, this paper uses the "Zone of Proximal Development" as a guideline, and uses a comparative experiment to investigate the impact of the "Zone of Proximal Development" on the development of high school students’ aesthetic perception of music under the guidance of the "Zone of Proximal Development" concept. The experiment was conducted in two classes in Huangzhou District No.1 Middle School to investigate the impact of the "Zone of Proximal Development" on the development of aesthetic music perception in high school students. The first step was to find out the "actual developmental level" of students’ aesthetic perception through a pre-test,the second step was to combine the teaching strategies and teaching design ideas of the "Zone of Proximal Development" concept with classroom practice, and the final step was to find out the development of students’ aesthetic perception through a post-test.To this end,the paper consists of the following sections.Part Ⅰ: Introduction. An overview of the article’s research background, research purpose, research significance, research ideas and methodology is made, followed by a review of the literature,an analysis of the results of previous research as well as its shortcomings, and a clarification of the research direction of this article.Part Ⅱ: Explanation of core concepts.Firstly, the connotation and level classification of aesthetic perceptual literacy in the Senior Secondary Music Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition)are explained.Secondly, the connotation of "ZPD" is explained. Finally, the relationship between aesthetic perception and the "zone of most recent development" is analysed, laying the foundation for the subsequent experimental design and implementation of the teaching process.Part Ⅲ: Teaching practice.Firstly,it introduces the teaching design ideas and teaching strategies based on the ’zone of most recent development’.Secondly,a lesson plan is designed based on the above design ideas and teaching strategies. Finally, some analysis of the effectiveness of the practice is presented.Part Ⅳ: Insights.A summary of the implications of the "ZPD" for developing the aesthetic perception of music in high school students.Part Ⅴ: Conclusions and reflections.Firstly, the findings show that there is a significant effect on the development of high school students’ aesthetic perception of music based on the "ZPD".Secondly, reflections are made on the limitations of the research due to objective and subjective factors. Finally, some prospects are given for future research.
