A Case Study On Improving Parent-child Relationships In Nursing Home

With the increase of the elderly population,the related pension problems,housing problems,parent-child relationship problems are increasingly prominent.At the same time,more and more elderly people choose institutional pension.For the elderly in pension institutions,affected by distance,time and other factors,the need for parent-child relationship will be more urgent.In order to explore the parent-child relationship of the elderly in the pension institution,the author takes the elderly in X pension institution in J City as an example and selects 20 research objects to understand the parent-child relationship of the elderly in the institution and analyze the problems and influences of parentchild relationship and the needs of the elderly through interview,participant observation and other methods.Through the analysis,it can be seen that the parentchild relationship problems of the elderly in pension institutions are mainly reflected in three aspects: less interaction and communication,parent-child conflict and unmet spiritual needs.The reasons for the problems are mainly related to the lack of good communication methods,big differences in ideological concepts,the personality of the elderly and children’s low attention to spiritual needs.In addition,the poor parent-child relationship will also bring negative effects on the elder’s mood,interpersonal communication and so on.This study takes Grandma W as the research object to explore how to ease the parent-child relationship of the elderly in the nursing home from the perspective of social work and improve the quality of life of the elderly.Under the guidance of social role theory and family system theory,the method of case study is used to intervene in two ways: inside and outside the family.The following conclusions are drawn from the research: Firstly,the promotion of parent-child communication is the key to improve the parent-child relationship of the elderly in the nursing home.Social workers help the service object and son understand the importance of two-way communication,change the bad communication mode between the service object and son,enhance the frequency of communication,ease the parent-child relationship,and promote the effectiveness of communication to help both parties re-open the communication channel.Improved the way of communication,enhanced the frequency of contact between each other,promoted good communication between each other,resolved some misunderstandings and contradictions between the two sides,and achieved the effect of improving the relationship between the client and the son.Second,the elderly in pension institutions are more likely to have adverse parent-child relationship than the elderly at home and community.Creating a good family atmosphere is particularly important in improving the parent-child relationship among the elderly.Third,to properly maintain the parent-child relationship of the elderly requires the joint efforts of various forces.The intervention of social work can play a certain role In terms of improving parent-child relationships among older adults,but the relatively mature path still needs to be explored and explored,and more professional talents and related resources are needed.
