In the teaching process and educational practice of physical education in general colleges and universities, due to the popularity and spread of various physical exercise programs in colleges and universities and the increased emphasis on physical and psychological health of college students, examinations of various sports programs have been included in the assessment of academic performance. The aim of this study is to investigate the different effects of different sports on the physical health and physical self-esteem of university students through an intervention experiment of after-school exercise in different sports, and also to analyse the advantages of each sport by comparing each sport with the no-training group. The experiment was conducted to find out which sport was more effective in improving the physical health and self-esteem of university students. The results of the experiment are used to suggest practical improvements to the sport.Badminton is a sport that is more suitable for university students because it requires less time, space and space, has a high level of male and female participation and is also adapted to the current physical and psychological development needs of university students. This paper also focuses on after-school badminton exercise. The aim is to develop more reasonable exercise programmes for university sportspeople or after-school exercisers,so as to improve their physical and psychological fitness. The study mainly used experimental, measurement, questionnaire and mathematical statistics methods,as well as the National Physical Fitness Standard for Students(revised in 2014)and the Physical Self-Esteem Scale revised by Xu Xia et al.as measurement tools.90 students(all general students i.e.non-athletic and artistic students)from the first and second year of college at Hainan Medical College were randomly divided into four groups(25 badminton,21 football,23 swimming and 21 no training).(23 in badminton,21 in football,23 in swimming and 21 in no training group).Afterwards, they were categorised according to their participation in different extra-curricular exercise programmes and the intervention was carried out twice a week, with heart rate controlled at 145 beats per minute or more, and a physical fitness test and a questionnaire on the physical self-esteem scale were administered at the end of the whole experiment. After the data were obtained, independent sample t-tests,one-way variance and post-hoc multiple comparisons were used to analyse the differences in physical fitness and psychological quality between students who participated in badminton and other sports, and conclusions and recommendations were drawn. In order to lay the foundation for future research work on scientific sports exercise and physical and mental health.Conclusions.(1)Students who participated in extracurricular badminton exercise were significantly better than the no exercise group in terms of speed quality and explosive power, and waist and abdominal strength, while there was little difference in cardiorespiratory endurance, flexibility, and body form;there was a significant improvement in the physical self-worth and motor skills subscales of the main scale, while there was no significant difference in physical attractiveness, and physical condition.(2)The badminton group was weaker in physical cardiorespiratory fitness compared to the swimming group, but better in speed quality, explosive power, muscular strength and endurance compared to the swimming group;the swimming group was significantly better than the badminton group in the physical attractiveness subscale.(3)The badminton group had a gap in muscular endurance compared to the football group, while it was better in muscular strength than the football group;in terms of physical self-esteem,the difference between the football and badminton groups was not significant.Recommendations.(1)As the badminton group compared with the no exercise group, badminton extra-curricular exercise for college students in terms of cardiorespiratory endurance, flexibility, body form needs to be strengthened, then we advocate that the badminton exercise should increase the exercise content to improve the function of the cardiorespiratory system, circulatory system, and strengthen the body flexibility, joint mobility exercises way to create a better body form.(2)In the comparison between the badminton group and the swimming group, the body’s cardiorespiratory fitness needs to be improved. It is recommended that the badminton group should develop exercise plans to improve the students’ lung capacity and draw on the exercises used in the swimming exercise to better improve the students’ overall health level.(3)In the comparison between the badminton group and football,it was concluded that the badminton group’s muscular endurance needs to be strengthened. It is suggested that the extra-curricular exercise of the badminton group should pay more attention to the aerobic endurance quality of the students, and that long-distance running exercises should be included in the exercise, and teachers or coaches should monitor and supervise more effectively. |
