Chinese characters are a system of writing symbols to record Chinese, and learners of Chinese as a second language cannot avoid learning Chinese characters. For Cambodian learners who use pinyin characters, there is a problem that Chinese characters are difficult to write, and there are a lot of errors in the daily writing of Chinese characters. These errors reflect the cognitive and memory difficulties encountered by Cambodian students in the process of learning Chinese characters, and further indicate that there is room for improvement in the current teaching methods of Chinese characters. The purpose of this study is to explore the characteristics of Chinese character writing errors of Cambodian primary and secondary school students under the online teaching mode, and further analyze the causes of errors,so as to provide targeted suggestions for the Chinese character teaching of this group under the specific teaching mode.In this paper,a total of 101 written materials of 31 Cambodian primary and secondary school students from 6 grades in 18 schools under the online teaching mode were classified and counted, and 1209 errors were collected. The results were compared with the distribution of Chinese character writing errors of college students with the same Chinese level in online teaching mode, and the characteristics of Chinese character writing errors among primary and secondary school students in Cambodia were obtained. To this end,a total of 121 written materials were collected from 31 students of Royal University of Phnom Penh in Cambodia under the online teaching mode, and 1035 errors were counted. In addition,it explores whether the change of teaching mode has an impact on learners’ Chinese character writing errors. Therefore,by combing the previous results on the type distribution of Chinese character writing errors of Cambodian learners in offline teaching mode and comparing them with the type distribution results of Chinese character writing errors of Cambodian primary and secondary school students in online teaching mode, the characteristics of Chinese character writing errors of Cambodian learners in online teaching mode are obtained.Based on the two comparisons, the following characteristics can be summarized: First, from the perspective of large structure level, the proportion of stroke errors is higher than the component errors than the whole word errors, but the proportion of component errors is relatively high,in which the component combination structure errors make a significant contribution.Secondly, among all kinds of stroke errors, the proportion of stroke shape errors and stroke number errors of learners in online teaching mode is relatively reduced, while the proportion of inter-stroke relation errors is increased.Thirdly, among the types of component errors, compared with the learner errors in the offline teaching mode, the proportion of component combination structure errors of learners in the online teaching mode is significantly increased, and there is a certain number of component deformation errors.Fourthly, among the three types of whole character errors, the non-standard character errors of primary and secondary school students account for a relatively high proportion. And the error of other words is relatively low.Secondly, combined with the characteristics of Cambodian primary and secondary school students’ Chinese character writing errors under the online teaching mode, this paper explores the causes of Chinese character writing errors from four aspects: learners, teachers, teaching institutions and other factors through the analysis of learners’ Chinese character writing errors materials, teaching reflection, classroom observation of online teaching video recording of teachers of the same type, and interviews with in-service teachers and students of international online Chinese teaching. From the perspective of students,it can be found that students’ basic knowledge of Chinese characters is weak, primary and secondary school students’ awareness of self-correction is not enough, and they do not correctly use the template of the standard writing format of Chinese characters. From the perspective of teachers, there are a variety of problems in teaching display, such as not showing the complete strokes of Chinese characters,in addition, the teachers are not enough to correct the errors. As for teaching institutions, there are shortcomings in curriculum setting. They integrate the teaching of Chinese characters into comprehensive courses,do not set up a separate Chinese character class, and do not systematically teach students the basic knowledge of Chinese characters.Other factors are the essential differences between Chinese characters and Cambodian characters, and the negative transfer of native language characters when students write Chinese characters. Finally, this paper puts forward some suggestions on the teaching of Chinese characters for Cambodian primary and secondary school students under the online teaching mode from three aspects: learners, teachers and educational institutions. For learners,self-correction awareness and the use of standard Chinese writing format templates should be developed. From the perspective of teachers,it is necessary to prevent the negative transfer of students’ mother tongue characters, adjust teaching methods, pay attention to the correction of students’ Chinese character writing and strictly standardize the requirements of students’ Chinese character writing.Teaching institutions should take measures such as adjusting curriculum to help students learn Chinese characters.
