| The language textbook is the centre and pivot of the language curriculum,and as the most important part of the language textbook,the richness of its connotations and constructs directly affect the quality of language education and teaching.The richness of contemporary prose,with its classical works and rich humanistic connotations,has always had a place in senior secondary language textbooks.Due to the differences in the geographical and cultural backgrounds of different textbooks and their writing philosophies,each version of the textbook has its own unique characteristics,and the works of contemporary prose selected for inclusion in the textbook also show differences in their selection.Since its approval in 2004,the Su Education version of the senior secondary language textbook has gone through sixteen years and has been recognised and favoured by the education sector for its uniqueness.The unified version of the high school language textbooks is the latest product of the historical process of exploring language textbooks in China.Based on the new writing philosophy and the experience of several curriculum reforms,the selection of texts and the style of writing of the new textbooks have shown great changes.Therefore,this thesis takes the Unified Edition and the Su Education Edition of the high school language textbooks as the objects of comparison,to sort out and explore the characteristics of the selected contemporary prose in the two editions,so that teachers can gain a deeper understanding of the new textbooks,use them wisely in teaching,incorporate the characteristics of the new textbooks,and make the most of their functions in order to better accomplish the task of teaching prose.The thesis consists of five parts: the first part firstly explains the definition and characteristics of prose and the significance of studying contemporary prose for students;the second part elaborates on the background and philosophy of writing the language textbooks of the Su Education Edition and the Unified Edition,as well as the requirements for prose in the standards of the two editions,in order to gain a theoretical understanding of the two editions.The third and fourth sections compare and contrast the characteristics of the selection and arrangement of contemporary prose in the two editions,analysing the number of prose texts,periods,authors,genres and arrangements,and summarising the similarities and differences,with a view to grasping the prose selection system and structural characteristics of the two editions in a comprehensive and detailed manner.Finally,based on the respective strengths,we offer inspirations to the on how to teach prose under the new standards,so as to promote the effective use of the new textbooks. |
