In the "Opinions on Further Strengthening and Improving Physical Education in Colleges and Universities",the Ministry of Education proposed to innovate the curriculum system and promote the reform and development of physical education in colleges and universities.For basketball elective courses,innovative teaching methods are needed to improve the teaching model and enhance students’ interest and enthusiasm.The game teaching method has the advantages of strong flexibility,high interest,and good interactivity,which has certain feasibility and practicality in the application of college basketball elective course teaching.Based on this,this study takes Tianjin Zhongde University of Applied Technology as an example to explore the application of game teaching methods in the teaching of basketball elective courses in universities.The following research results were obtained:(1)In terms of physical fitness indicators,the physical fitness indicators of the experimental group with the game teaching method were significantly improved before and after the experiment;The control group with traditional teaching method also showed significant improvement in physical fitness.However,compared with the traditional teaching group,the experimental group with the game teaching method improved their physical fitness significantly.(2)In terms of specific technical indicators,the experimental group with the game teaching method before and after the experiment has a very significant improvement in specific technical indicators;The control group with the traditional teaching method also had a significant improvement in each index of special technology.However,compared with the traditional teaching group,the experimental group that took the game teaching method after the experiment improved the special skills more significantly.(3)In terms of learning motivation indicators,the experimental group with the game teaching method before and after the experiment had a very significant improvement in all indicators of learning motivation;The control group with the traditional teaching method showed significant improvement in various indicators of learning motivation.However,compared with the traditional teaching group,the experimental group with the game teaching method improved their learning motivation significantly after the experiment.(4)By comparing the data of the experimental group and the control group with the traditional teaching method after the experiment,it was found that there were significant differences in the physical fitness index of 50-meter running,one-minute shooting of special technical index and learning motivation index.The following suggestions are put forward: pay attention to the application of game teaching method in basketball elective course teaching,design different types of basketball games;Combine game teaching method with traditional teaching method to improve students’ physical quality,special skills and learning motivation;We should pay attention to the evaluation and feedback of the teaching effect of basketball elective course,adjust and improve the teaching method in time,and improve the teaching quality.
