| Undeniably, the educational system’s secondary vocational education is of utmost importance for social stability and economic growth.Previous research on the mental health of adolescents has focused on ordinary middle school students, with less research on vocational school students.Although it has been found that parent-child relationships have a profound impact on individual mental health, the mechanism of their action is still unclear. This study sought to explore the mental health,parent-child relationship,self-esteem,and basic psychology needs of secondary vocational school students, and to further elucidate the connection between them.Chinese families and schools are ardently urged to give more thought to the mental health of secondary vocational students, suggest parent-child education, and promote the implementation of school mental health instruction for these students, thus augmenting the theory of parent-child relationship, mental health, basic psychology needs, and self-esteem of secondary vocational students. The investigation and research was conducted utilizing the Parent-Child Relationship Scale, the "Impact from and Awareness of Parents",the "Mental Health Assessment Scale for Middle School Students in China",the "Basic Psychological Needs Scale",and the "Self esteem Scale" to conduct an investigation and research. This research project investigated the correlation between mental health, the parent-child relationship, basic psychology needs, and self-esteem of 957 secondary vocational students from H City.Exploring the development status of various variables,: Study 1 explores the development status of various variables through descriptive statistics, independent sample t-tests,and one-way ANOVA,and compares the status of various variables among secondary vocational school students with different demographic characteristics(gender, grade, ethnicity, single child or not,and student origin); In contrast,Study 2 utilizes correlation analysis to confirm the interconnections between variables, and their mechanisms of action.Mediation effects were analyzed using model 4 and model 14 in PROCESS to examine the mediating effects of basic psychological needs and the moderating effects of self-esteem.The results showed that:1.The development status of parent-child relationship, psychological health, basic psychological needs, and self-esteem of vocational school students:(1)The overall parent-child relationship of vocational school students is good, and boys are more willing to see their parents as role models in life.Minority students are more likely to feel the spiritual support and influence of their parents than Han students.Han students are more able to feel spiritual independence from their parents than minority students, and only children are more able to feel spiritual independence than non only children.Third grade students in vocational schools are more likely to feel the mental repression from their parents than first grade students.(2)Vocational school students generally have certain mental health problems, especially in terms of anxiety, compulsion, depression, and interpersonal relationships;Minority students are more prone to compulsion, paranoia, and psychological imbalance than Han students, and Han students are more prone to maladaptation than minority students; The overall score of female students on mental health issues is higher than that of male students.(3)The overall score of basic psychological needs and scores on various subscales of vocational school students exceed the theoretical median standard of meeting needs, and vocational school girls and Han students are more likely to feel a sense of belonging.(4)The self-esteem development of vocational school students is at a moderate level.2.A strong relationship exists between secondary vocational school students’ parent-child relationship, mental health, fundamental psychological requirements, and self-esteem.."Parents’ spiritual support" is positively correlated with basic psychological needs;"The influence of parents’ thinking beliefs" is negatively correlated with mental health problems, while "the influence of parents’ thinking beliefs" is positively correlated with basic psychological needs and self-esteem;"Gratitude to parents" is negatively correlated with mental health problems, while "gratitude to parents" is positively correlated with basic psychological needs and self-esteem;"Parents’ mental repression" is positively correlated with psychological problems, while "parents’ mental repression" is negatively correlated with basic psychological needs and self-esteem;"Parents as role models in life" has a significant negative correlation with mental health issues, while "parents as role models in life" has a positive correlation with basic psychological needs and self-esteem.Mental health problems are negatively correlated with basic psychological needs and self-esteem.There is a significant positive correlation between basic psychological needs and self-esteem.3.The basic psychological needs of vocational school students act as a bridge between the parent-child relationship and mental health, with self-esteem having a certain regulatory part.Research suggests that a good parent-child relationship will help meet the basic psychological needs of vocational school students, thereby avoiding psychological problems, and self-esteem also plays a certain regulatory role in this process. The research results can provide empirical reference and theoretical guidance for the prevention and intervention of psychological problems among vocational school students. |
