With the rapid development of the times,"images" have become an important tool for human communication.It has not only changed our daily lives,but also provided us with more ways to access information and think,and the ability to recognise and interpret images has become a new requirement for the training of talents in the new century.Art as a visual art,’image’ has an important position in the art subject,and students in junior high school are in a period of rapid development of cognitive and aesthetic skills."The teaching of the’Appreciation-Review’ domain in junior art places emphasis on students’ aesthetic skills and comprehension.Pictorialism as a methodology emphasises the understanding of visual culture and provides an important framework for understanding and analysing images,an approach that fits in with the teaching focus of the latest curriculum programme.The aim of this paper is therefore to explore the teaching practices of the ’Appreciation and Commentary’ area of junior art through the lens of iconography,with a view to enhancing students’ visual cultural literacy and picture reading skills.Firstly,the article discusses whether the pictorial analysis method is applicable to the field of "appreciation and commentary" in junior high school art from the perspective of the background of the times,core art literacy and curriculum standards,and explains its application value.It also explains the value of its application,and gives rational consideration to the practical significance of the pictorial analysis method in the field of "appreciationcommentary".Secondly,through a survey and analysis of the current teaching situation in the field of "appreciation and commentary" in some schools in Guangdong,an analysis of the Lingnan version of the junior high school art teaching materials and a summary of the importance of the junior high school art appreciation course,the practical need for the application of the pictorial analysis method to the junior high school art appreciation course is proposed,on the basis of which specific teaching principles and On the basis of this,specific teaching principles and designs are developed,and two lessons,Qi Baishi,Xu Beihong and Da Vinci and Picasso,are selected and implemented in the Year 9 course of the Lingnan edition of the Art Appreciation and Criticism domain.Finally,through the analysis of the implementation of the curriculum,it was concluded that the use of pictorial analysis in the teaching of the ’Appreciation and Commentary’ area in junior high school art is a step-by-step approach to art appreciation that allows students to develop the ability to read pictures in a progressively deeper aesthetic process.Through the analysis of students’ performance and the effectiveness of the teaching methods,the experience of teaching the field of "appreciation and commentary" in junior high school art is further summarised,and future developments are envisaged.
