Childhood leukemia has a long period of disease and many complications, which will not only lead to a decline in the self-care ability of children, but also affect the physical and mental health of caregivers, and will react to children and other family members.Reducing the caregiver’s caring load plays a crucial role in improving the quality of life of children and caregivers. Therefore, how to relieve the caregiver’s caring load, reduce their negative emotions and help them obtain social support through the intervention of medical social workers is the direction that medical social workers need to strive for. This article takes caregivers for leukemia children as an example, conducts a targeted investigation and analysis of the current situation and needs of 8 caregivers for leukemia children in the Hematology Department of S Provincial People’s Hospital, and adopts a group work approach to intervene, aiming to reduce the care load of caregivers for leukemia children.Researchers used research methods such as interview and observation to collect and organize the current situation of care load among group members, and found that caregivers for children have a need to vent emotions, strengthen social support, and improve disease awareness.Based on the issues and needs of child caregivers, researchers applied theories such as emotional ABC theory and social support theory to group work.Through five group activities, each group activity gradually met the needs of child caregivers and helped them overcome difficulties. Finally, based on the entire process of group work intervention,it was found that the nervousness of caregivers for children was effectively alleviated, more care skills were mastered, and social support networks were expanded through interaction with researchers and team members.
