In recent years,China has increased its efforts to provide assistance to children in difficulty, such as minor children of prison inmates, and gradually improved the social assistance and welfare system for this group, and issues such as survival, education and mental health have gradually become the focus of social attention.Due to external influences such as imbalance in family structure, peer alienation and social stigma, and internal influences such as individual attachment personality and cognitive patterns, this group generally has problems in emotion management, which are manifested in three aspects: unclear emotion cognition and expression, poor emotion regulation ability and insufficient emotion application ability. In this regard, what intervention strategies can social workers adopt to help minor children of prison inmates solve their emotion management problems has become a hot research topic in this field. This study used a casework approach to collect relevant data through field observations,in-depth interviews, and questionnaires to explore the emotional management problems of this group. Two minor children of inmates with typical emotion management problems were selected from the clients of Q Institution’s care program for minor children of inmates as the study subjects.Under the guidance of the rational emotion therapy model, the current situation of emotion management, problems and their causes were analyzed, and strategies were developed and implemented at three levels:emotion recognition and expression, emotion regulation, and emotion application. The results of the practical study found that social work case interventions can enhance the ability of minor children of prison inmates to recognize and express their emotions, correct irrational beliefs, and help them master emotion regulation skills, ultimately achieving the purpose of strengthening their emotion management abilities. On this foundation, the validity and suitability of the strategies were evaluated by reviewing and concluding the intervention process in so that it could contribute to future studies on the emotion management of prison inmates’ minor children.
