Science and technology activities are practical exploratory activities that are closely related to the generation,development,dissemination and application of scientific and technological knowledge,and play an important role in stimulating young people’s interest in learning science and developing scientific thinking,innovation and hands-on practical skills.Nowadays,science activities are increasingly valued by the whole society and have become an important part of school education activities.The development of science and technology activities in schools is closely related to the social resources of the school location,the school site,facilities and teachers.How to effectively carry out science and technology activities to improve the overall quality of students has become a hot topic of concern today.This study takes the development of science and technology activities in the author’s school as an example,and makes a useful exploration in this regard.Firstly,a systematic study was conducted on the current status of science and technology activities and theories related to science and technology activities at home and abroad to understand the common problems faced by different schools in the process of developing science and technology activities and the possible causes of these problems.The study then summarises the principles,methods and recommendations for the implementation of science and technology activities,and analyses the significance of science and technology activities for the overall development of students.In order to ensure that the subsequent science and technology activities are effective in improving the overall quality of students,the author conducted research with students,teachers and parents in the school through interviews and questionnaires to understand the needs of each party and the advantages and problems faced in the implementation of science and technology activities in the school.Based on a systematic analysis of the research results,I propose strategies for the implementation of science and technology activities:(1)combine curriculum content to implement teaching objectives;(2)diversify activities to explore students’ potential;(3)add innovative elements to be close to students’ preferences;(4)divide the levels and stages to focus on students’ differences;(5)make activities practical to ensure hands-on operation;(6)focus on process and outcome evaluation;and(7)combine micro-video production to do a good job of The activities are recorded well.Based on the above principles and recommendations for the implementation of science and technology activities and the strategies for their development,a detailed and systematic planning of the development of science and technology activities was carried out on the basis of collective discussions in the science teaching and research group to determine the objectives,themes,venues,contents and forms of science and technology activities.Four examples of science and technology activities were developed: "Campus Science and Technology Tour + Encyclopaedic Knowledge Quiz","Scientific Ecological Planting Expansion","Field Trip to Hangzhou Safari Park",and "Homemade Science and Technology Car".and "Homemade Science and Technology Car Slalom Competition".Finally,questionnaires and interviews were used to investigate the effectiveness of science and technology activities based on the improvement of overall literacy.The results of the study show that the three dimensions of students’ overall quality,namely "communication and cooperation","practical innovation" and "scientific attitude",have all improved.The results of the pre-test and post-test of science and technology activities show that students have improved in the areas of ethics and literacy,work and skills,practice and inquiry,communication and cooperation,and aesthetics and art.Science and technology activities can strengthen students’ sense of social responsibility,cultivate critical thinking,and are also beneficial to students’ ability to improve their labour practices,experimental investigations and technological innovations.Technology activities not only improve students’ independent learning skills,but also enhance students’ ability to work in groups,while exercising communication and expression,and even aesthetic appreciation as well as video production.In summary,technology activities have a profound positive impact on the overall quality of students.
