In the era of accelerating aging,the problem of care services for the elderly is gradually coming to the fore.Institutionalized elderly care has a greater professional advantage,but institutionalized elderly care has not yet formed a perfect system,which means that socialized services for the elderly are needed to cope with the aging of the population.Currently,the participation of volunteer forces in alleviating the aging problem is strongly advocated.Western experience also shows that volunteer service is developing rapidly along with the prominence of the aging problem in society.China’s elderly service is a heavy task,and the services of elderly volunteers play a vital role.However,the active role of elderly helper volunteers is based on their ability to provide effective services.At present,due to the lack of professional care giving knowledge and skills,coupled with the lack of service experience,the elderly helper service does not play its effective role in the service process.In order to effectively meet the needs of the elderly,it is very urgent for workers to conduct training and improve the comprehensive service capacity of the elderly volunteers.This paper uses social work methods to intervene in the problem of insufficient capacity of elderly volunteers.The researcher adopts a group work approach to intervene with the elderly volunteers in the H elderly care institution to apply and test the social work theory in practice,and at the same time,to enrich the practical cases and experiences of combining social work and elderly volunteers’ capacity cultivation research.Firstly,the workers used questionnaires,participant observation and semi-structured interviews to investigate the elderly and the elderly volunteers in H elderly care institution to understand the basic situation of the current elderly assistance services.The results of the survey were analyzed in depth,and the abilities of the elderly volunteers were divided into four dimensions: teamwork ability,communication ability,care and nursing ability,and the ability to master and apply the knowledge of elderly volunteer services.Under the guidance of empowerment theory,dominant perspective theory and social learning theory,growth groups were designed based on the four dimensions with the overall goal of service capacity enhancement.Then,members of the group activities were identified based on the principle of involuntariness,and the goals and contents of the group activities were set through the surveyed volunteers’ service capacity enhancement needs.Through the seven group activities,the workers helped the volunteers to learn care giving knowledge and skills and improve the service capacity of helping the elderly,so that the elder could enjoy higher quality services.Finally,the workers conducted quantitative and qualitative analysis on the effectiveness of the group activities,reflected on the process of the group work according to the opinions of the group members,analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of the group work in improving the service capacity of the elderly volunteers,and gave corresponding suggestions for optimization,so that professional social work can better help the elderly volunteers to improve their service capacity.
