Thanks to the efforts of all poverty-relief workers, our country has finally eliminated absolute poverty and won the battle against poverty. However, this does not mean that the poverty problem is completely resolved. With the development of society, poverty problems will become more diversified in the future, and poverty problems in education, medical care, and social security in poor areas will gradually become more prominent. Therefore, after 2020,the focus of China’s poverty alleviation work should shift from solving absolute poverty to alleviating multidimensional poverty.Developing tourism has always been an important way and means to achieve poverty alleviation, but the effect of tourism in poverty alleviation has been questioned by academic circles.Especially for multidimensional poverty, can the development of tourism alleviate regional multidimensional poverty? The academic circles is still inconclusive on the issue. Therefore, based on the perspective of multi-dimensional poverty, this paper selects the Wumeng Mountain distressed area as the research area to explore the relationship between tourism development and multi-dimensional poverty alleviation.First of all, this article builds an evaluation system for multi-dimensional poverty alleviation based on summarizing domestic and foreign related researches on multidimensional poverty. And by collecting relevant index data, the multi-dimensional poverty alleviation index of the study area is calculated. Then, using the data of 30 counties in the Wumeng Mountain distressed area from 2011 to 2018,construct a basic panel model of tourism development and multi-dimensional poverty alleviation, and analyze the impact of tourism development on multi-dimensional poverty alleviation based on the model estimation results. At the same time, the same method is used to expand the analysis of the impact of tourism development on economic poverty alleviation, education poverty alleviation, and social security poverty alleviation. Finally, considering the spatial effects of tourism development and poverty alleviation, the spatial panel model of tourism development and multi-dimensional poverty alleviation is further constructed, and the spatial effects of tourism development and multi-dimensional poverty alleviation are analyzed based on the model estimation results. In the same way,the spatial effects of tourism development and economic poverty alleviation, education poverty alleviation, and social security poverty alleviation are also expanded and analyzed. The main conclusions of this paper are:(1)Tourism development can alleviate multi-dimensional poverty, economic poverty and social security poverty in the region, and has no obvious impact on education poverty;(2)Poverty alleviation has spatial agglomeration and spatial spillover effects;(3)Surrounding areas’ Tourism development will restrain the alleviation of multidimensional poverty and social security poverty in the region, but will have no obvious impact on economic poverty and education poverty. In response to the above conclusions, this article also puts forward relevant policy recommendations in conjunction with the specific development of China’s tourism poverty alleviation work.
