The report of the 19 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that China’s economic development will realize a major transformation from high-speed growth to high-quality development,and the key to promoting high-quality economic development lies in the innovation drive of scientific and technological innovation and technological progress.At present,China’s innovation-driven mode is changing from exogenous technology introduction to endogenous independent innovation.How to integrate various material elements with innovative technology and knowledge to form endogenous technological innovation capability has become the focus of China’s innovation-driven strategy.Patentintensive industries,as industries with intensive knowledge and technology,strong technological innovation capability and good comprehensive benefits,play an important role in upgrading industrial structure and building core competitiveness.According to Statistical Classification of Intellectual Property(Patent)-intensive Industries(2019)issued by the National Bureau of Statistics in 2019,manufacturing accounts for 70.3% of the patent-intensive industries,which is the main component.However,domestic scholars found that compared with non-patent-intensive manufacturing,the innovation efficiency of China’s patent-intensive manufacturing industry grew slowly,and its higher patent output level failed to significantly promote the international competitiveness of the industry,the per capita main business income and other economic indicators.How to improve the quality and efficiency of technological innovation in patent-intensive manufacturing industry and promote its production efficiency and technical level is an important issue in China’s innovation-driven development strategy.Therefore,it is necessary to analyze the relevant influencing factors on the basis of accurately evaluating the development level of patent-intensive manufacturing industry.On the basis of consulting a large number of relevant literature and policy documents,this paper determines the topic of the thesis,clarifies the research significance of this paper,and clearly defines the concepts of patent-intensive manufacturing industry,intellectual property protection intensity and technological innovation mode.Summarize the related research of domestic and foreign scholars on this issue,and find out the possible innovations of this paper.Then,on the basis of describing and analyzing the R&D situation and achievements transformation of patent-intensive manufacturing industry,select the input-output index,use DEA-Malmquist index to calculate the total factor productivity(TFP)of patentintensive manufacturing industry,and compare the manufacturing industry with low patent density,specifically analyze the TFP growth level of patent-intensive manufacturing industry and the improvement direction.Finally,aiming at the complex relationship between intellectual property protection intensity,technological innovation mode and technological innovation,the invention patent is taken as a clue to bring intellectual property protection,technological innovation mode of independent innovation and imitation innovation as well as industrial development into the same analysis framework,build a theoretical model and put forward research hypotheses,and then build a regression model to empirically test the impact and mechanism of intellectual property protection intensity and technological innovation mode selection on TFP of manufacturing industries with different patent densities.The results show that:(1)In terms of TFP growth,the TFP growth rate of patent-intensive manufacturing industry and the overall level of each decomposition item are higher than those of low patent-intensive manufacturing industry;Technological progress is the main driving force for TFP growth of the two types of manufacturing industries.The promotion of patent-intensive manufacturing industries will depend more on technological efficiency,while low-patent-intensive manufacturing industries need technological progress and technical efficiency to jointly improve and drive TFP growth.There are significant differences between the two industries.Higher independent innovation level can promote the growth of patent-intensive manufacturing TFP,but there is not a simple positive correlation between them.(2)In terms of influencing factors of TFP,the impact of intellectual property protection intensity is significantly heterogeneous before manufacturing industries with different patent densities,and patentintensive manufacturing industries are suitable for stricter protection intensity;There is no significant difference in the influence of technological innovation mode on total factor productivity.Independent innovation and imitation innovation are both effective ways to form independent intellectual property rights and enhance the ability of scientific and technological innovation.While strengthening the protection of intellectual property rights,imitation and re-innovation should be recognized and supported.(3)In terms of influencing mechanism,although the intensity of intellectual property protection is negatively related to the growth of total factor productivity of manufacturing industry,it can positively influence the total factor productivity by promoting the improvement of invention patent output.Both independent innovation and R&D investment by imitating innovation can promote the improvement of total factor productivity by improving the output level of invention patent.
