"spring And Autumn Zuo" The Preposition Research

This thesis, from both theory and practice, does the earnest and careful study of rooted 33 preposition in Chunqiuzuozhuan for the first time, and, from three angles: syntax, semantics and pragmatics, sheds light on the basic and intrinsic characteristics of preposition in Chunqiuzuozhuan. The whole thesis consists of five chapters, in addition to an introduction and a summary.The introduction is divided into three parts. The first part, from three aspects, phonetics, vocabulary and grammar, tells us that Chunqiuzuozhuan, as the first chronicle of China, has its distinct style of times, being worthy of studying; the second part briefly sums up and reviews the study of grammar and preposition in Chunqiuzuozhuan in the history; and the third part, in view of unresolved problem in preposition study, clarifies both purpose and method of studying preposition.Chapter One, "Theoretical Study of Preposition in Chunqiuzuozhuan", is the basic theory of this thesis. The First Part recollects definitions of preposition given by grammarians both at home and abroad since the publication of Mashiwentong in 1898, and clarifies the academic significance of classification and definition of preposition; the Second Part, after organizing the results of studying preposition, raises a new method-systematic and profound study of preposition in Chunqiuzuozhuan; the Third Part, from both theory and practice, probes the differences between preposition and verb, between preposition and conjuction, and draws a clear line between preposition ,verb and conjuction; and the Fourth Part gives a further definition to preposition, thus having an analytic idea and frame of this thesis.Chapter Two, "Historic Study of Preposition in Chunqiuzuozhuan", makes a comparative study of preposition used during the ancient times, thoroughly investigates on eight documents, including Chunqiuzuozhuan, during the Qin and the Han dynasties, and tries to study preposition in classical Chinese as a systematic one and to find its lawof development.Both Chapter Three and Chapter Four, "Study of Preposition in Chunqiuzuozhuan", make a contemporary study of preposition. Chapter Three thoroughly investigates preposition in Chunqiuzuozhuan; Chapter Four makes an analytic study of preposition. The latter can be invided into two parts: the first part studies the main composition modified by preposition in Chunqiuzuozhuan, and the second one studies the collocation of preposition in Chunqiuzuozhuan.Chapter Five, "The Case Study of Preposition in Chunqiuzuozhuan" is a comprehensive study of preposition. The case study is done from two angles: one is to have a linear description of key preposition in Chunqiuzuozhuan and the other one is to have a longitudinal study of preposition, describing its development. This chapter is divided into four comparatively independent parts, doing a 3-D study of preposition is Chunqiuzuozhuan from four aspects separately and verifying the summary based on Chapter Three and Chapter Four.The Summary, on the basis of Chapter Three and Chapter Four, concludes the cardinal feature of preposition system in classical Chinese. In line with the principle of mutual confirmation of the exploration and the analysis, it gives us a further summary for the basic characters of preposition system in Chunqiuzuozhuan.
