This thesis is dedicated to do an analysis on the adverb and give us a description of the Shandong dialect in the Ming and Qing Dynasties by researching on three kind of vernacular writings which were written in Ming and Qing Dynasty. Respectively, they are Jin Ping Mei Ci Hua, Xing Shi Yin Yuan Zhuan and Liao Zhai Li Qu Ji. Based on this, this paper will discuss some theories about adverb, such as the nature, the scope, the classification, the formation and the evolution rule.Apart from the Introduction, this paper contains four chapters. The first chapter has two parts, which show us a general description of adverb. The first part tells us how to recognize adverb by comparing it with other kind of part of speech and analyzing its typical grammatical function. The second part lists us the classification of adverb. In this part, the paper shows us the different classified methods, the classified bases and the mainstream tendency in the Chinese research, then it proposes the significance of the classification standard in this research.Taking the semantics as the main standard, the adverb can be divided into 12 kinds: The degree adverb, the general adverb, the statistical adverb, the definition adverb, the similar adverb, the time adverb, the frequency adverb, the repetition adverb, the denial adverb, the expression adverb, the situation adverb and the connection adverb.Chapter two and chapter three mainly focus on the classification of adverb by analyzing the adverbs that appear in the three works that mentioned above. Chapter two mainly discusses the following adverbs: The degree adverb, the general adverb, the statistical adverb, the definition adverb, the similar adverb and the time adverb.
