The problem of cities and the relationship between city and region are paid more attention in the history of regional economics. Many economists have studied this topic from different angle, but there is no theoretical and comprehensive achievement until now. With the development of city, the city especially great certral city plays more and more important role in the national economy as a growth pole, this dissertation is to study the regional effect of a certral city economic development under the theoretical framework of regional economics, and the angle of the dissertation is to study the effect made by the certral city to the regional economy and regional spatial structure during the dynamic process of a regional spatial structure whose core is the certral city. This is not only a static problem which has relation to the current characteristic of regional spatial structure, but also a dynamic problem which has relation to the economic development and the evolvement of regional spatial structure. As the main body of a region, the development of a certral city has crucial effect on the regional economy and its spatial structure, and on the other hand, the development of certral city is a process complecting with agglomeration and diffuse, so it must be open and comprehensive. That is to say, there is a mutual effect between the city and exterior regional space during the development process of city. With the economic development of city and the promotion of city function, these mutual effects go into a higher level. Base on the point of view above, this dissertation begins the study in the dynamic regional spatial structure evolvement according the development clue. From the macroscopical angle of regional economic, an important characteristic of development of cities in a region is unbalance. The agglomeration and diffusing effect of central city makes the region have a multilayer spatial structure characteristic which evolves as the central city develops.Industrial division and agglomeration is the important base of city, and a city also makes its city function be realized by outputting its product and diffusing its service. The completed economic relationship among cities in a region which is connected with industrial chain of these cities becomes the basic frame of the whole regional spatial structure. So, the transfer and evolvement of industrial structure of central city affects the character and level of its regional effect to a considerable degree, and is the basic content of regional effect of city and the important drive to promote evolvement of spatial structure. From the angle of microcosmic angle, industrial transfer can be only realized through the location decision of corporation, then, under the circumstance of market economy, the optimal decision of corporation is more and more important, and corporation becomes the microcosmic carrier of industrial agglomeration and division. All in all, the location decision of microcosmic corporation makes the agglomeration anddivision of industry be reality through leading the factor flow, the agglomeration and division of industry impulse the development of regional industrial chain and city function, so the strengthen of industry integration and close economic relationship help to the evolvement of regional spatial structure. During the whole process, the central city is the core of regional spatial structure, the tie of regional economic relationship, the key of industry integration and industry chain, the power of industry agglomeration and division. Then, the regional effect of central city economic development is showed in this mechanism.Based on the theoretical framework and logic system above, the dissertation studies the region effect of Shanghai City to Chang Jiang Delta using the theories and methods of regional economics. This dissertation comprises seven chapters excluding introduction following the whole framework.Chapter I makes a theoretical analysis to the regional effect of the economic development of central city, and build up a general theoretical framework.Chapter II analyses the development process of Shanghai since 1843, and the regional spatial structure evolvement of Chang Jiang Delta. Using gravity model and Wilson model, this chapter studies the regional spatial structure of Chang Jiang Delta currently as an emphasis. This chapter also indicates Shanghai is the core of Chang Jiang Delta, but the economic energy of Shanghai is not enough notable and the barriers among cities are not abolished, the economic integration is not realized.Chapter III studies the unbalance economic development of Shanghai and Chang Jiang Delta since 1978 from macroscopical angle, and indicates Shanghai declines compared with other cities of Chang Jiang Delta, but as the most importang city, the radiant power of Shanghai still supplies service to the region. There is a notable hierachical structure in Chang Jiang Delta. This chapter also explains the different developed patterns through Shift-share analysis and institution analysis.Chapter IV studies the problems of industry transfer and its location decision. Firstly, this chapter analyses the current development of industries; secondly, using the method of regional economics, this chapter discusses the location distribution of manufacturing industry in Chang Jiang Delta and the industrial transfer and regional effect of Shanghai; lastly, this chapter studies the development of the third industry of Shanghai. This chapter indicates Shanghai has great effect to the manufacturing industrial transfer, it not only faces great challenge from other cities, but also faces a structure dilemma in its service industry. At present, the problem of service industry has produced negative effect to limit the city function of Shanghai.Chapter V changes the angle to microcosmic lay. This chapter studies the location decision of corporation. This chapter only focuses on the location decision of FDIs, because compared with the domestic firms, the firms of FDIs have higher sensitivity when they choose their location, of course, the information of FDIs are more systematic and accurate. This chapter indicates before 1992,...
