Korean who move to city from their ethnic neighborhood inevitable experience the progress and change of society and the ethnic culture like other nationality in the word.However, comparing to Korean who live in their ethnic neighborhood, Urban Korean undergo greater changes on life style and ideology, this change make latter the representative of the ethnic culture change, stand up in the frontier of conflict and blending of tradition and modern, they have to confront the contradictions on inheriting and developing ethnic culture.This conflict also reflects in the Urban Korean parenting. Family is the smallest unit of society to implement ethic education, is the initial and important cultural heritage places. Urbanization and modernization make the coexisting of the tradition and modern's child-rearing practice, put intense oscillation on Korean parent's attitude and behavior on child-rearing, triggers anxiety, confusion, and choice.The study selected Beijing as examine spot, profoundly illustrated the child-rearing practices of Korean parents in Beijing.Beijing is one of city which has concentrated Korean population. Examining Korean parents in Beijing, not only was feasibility and convenience, but also could prominently reflect the characteristics of contemporary Korean child-rearing practices in the torrent of social change and cultures integrating, could also reflect the development status and trends of urban Korean parenting in the future.The study tried to objectively reveal the change or undergoing change of urban Korean child-rearing practices on the context of ethnic culture change, by anthropological emic and etic study method, basing on tradition, facing the reality. At the same time, the study exploited the excellent educational value and heritage by comparing the tradition and modern child-rearing practices. It also examined the cultural clash encountered by Korean parents, and drew valuable research findings to guide the parenting, and to promote minority families parenting in city.The study included the following seven sections:The first section was the introduction which illustrated this study's purpose and significance, comprising background, the context of the study, purpose and significance. By reviewing literature, the progress of the study in the field of anthropology, psychology and pedagogy in China and the world, and methodology was addressed.The second section was the overview of Korean in Beijing. Overview of Chinese Korean and Korean population movements was introduced, then the sources of Beijing Korean, population distribution, employment status and etc. was introduced.The third section revealed Korean traditional parenting through historical literatures review. In illustration, the status of the traditional Korean parenting on the respects of the fertility concept, the traditional concept of parenting, childcare, and education were explored.The fourth section documented the status quo survey of Korean child-rearing in Beijing. The study illustrated child-rearing practice on two big respects, rear (prenatal care, breastfeeding, weaning, the excretion training, sleeping arrangements) and education (concepts of education, education behavior).The fifth section analyzed the characteristics of Korean child-rearing practice in Beijing. First, the child-rearing practice duality in the context of cultural change was described; namely, the child-rearing practice was succession of tradition, also had many new features; Second, anxiety and confusion of Korean parents in Beijing was illustrated by addressing the most concerned topics.The sixth section was study finding and discussion. Based on analysis of Korean parents interviews, the excellent tradition child-rearing practice was manifested which worth preserving and carrying forward, and it need further improving. Afterwards whole study was discussed.The seventh section was conclusion, mainly further illustrated the viewpoint of the study, namely:child-rearing practice is in the accordance with ethnic culture, children was bring up to a ideal individual to meet the ethnic culture requirement; Modern child-rearing practice and traditional one are interdependent and mutually conflict, the modern practice absorbed the essence from traditional one, while the tradition limit its further development and cause conflict; parenting plays an important role in transmitting ethnic culture.The study had three conclusions:1. Child-rearing practice is an important way for transmitting ethnic culture;2. Traditional and modern practice is interdependence and conflict with each other, is dialectical unity relationship;3. The family is the main place of the traditional ethnic heritage of culture and education, parenting has a vital role in transmitting ethnic culture.
