On University Academic Power

Power and university academic power are the core research tasks in both politics and educational politics. In recent years, a lot of research has been done and some achievement has been made on this problem. Based on the summary of past studying outcome, this paper exercises the theories of political power, authority and power validity, and makes comprehensive comparisons and analysis of the origin, evaluation, structure, peculiarities and functions of university academic power from the angle of educational politics. In addition to discussing complicated mutual relationship between'education'and'politics', it also reveals the generating and inherent running mechanism of university academic power which takes root in subject, stems from knowledge and embeds into existed class and economy relationships in order to expand the study scope of political power theory and deepen comprehension of power and bring forward helpful suggestions for the choice of modes and establishment of university academic power in China in the new century.This paper's novel study methods are represented as follow: it introduces theories of political power analysis and validity into the research of university academic power. The paper makes a systematical review on power theories such as'power and authority','power and right','power and organization','power and resource','power and space',especially under the direct guidance of Marxist power theory which stemmed from class and economy relationships. Meanwhile it entirely analyzes system of the western university academic power to explore the universal running rules of university academic power.
