Equipment manufacturing industry, as the basic industry provides technical support for the national economic development and the national defense construction. The evolution of equipment manufacturing industry decides the economic power, the defense strength as well as the competition and cooperation ability of a nation or region in the global economy. At present Chinese equipment manufacturing industry has obtained great achievement, but it still could not adapt itself to the national economic development for the weakness of innovation, high degree of foreign-dependency, irrationality of the industrial structure and the ebb of international competitive power and so on. Therefore, the research on the evolution and evaluation of equipment manufacturing industry is theoretically valuable and practically significant.In this dissertation, Equipment manufacturing industry is studied in a synthesis frame of the system of industry economics on the basis of the theory of evolution economics, evolution ecology and systematic science. Equipment manufacturing system is defined as an organic unity which is composed of various equipment industries and economic relations among them. Five aspects of Chinese equipment manufacturing industry are researched according to its actual development situation with synthetic method of qualitative and quantitative analysis, the synthetic method of positive and normative analysis and the comparative analysis. The first is evolutionary track of equipment manufacturing industry including. The definition of connotation and characteristic of the equipment industry, analysis of the present situation and problems of equipment manufacturing industry, the probe of evolutionary orbit the orderliness of space-time transference of Chinese equipment industrial system. The second is the evolution structure of the equipment industrial system. It mainly contains the market mechanism, the industrial structure, the spatial structure and the measurement of the industry clustering. The third is the path dependence and technological innovation of equipment manufacturing industrial system. The key part of equipment manufacturing evolution is the motive force. The technological innovation and the path dependence of industry development may cause the technology locking and industry's deadlock. To overcome the difficulties caused by path dependence of industry evolution and accomplish technology unblocking and industry upgrading, three kinds of patterns have been proposed in this dissertation, including industry cluster, technological transformation and resource recombination. The fourth is quantitative analysis and predicts of equipment manufacturing industrial system. The equipment industrial system is a dynamic evolution system composed of a great deal of interactive economic elements. The crucial link and main content of industrial system structure evolution is the emergence of new industry and the industrial differentiation and recombination. The essence of the manufacturing industry systemic evolution is the adjustment, the reorganization and the upgrade of the industrial structure. The fifth is appraisement of the evolution level of equipment manufacturing industrial system. Through three dimensions of economic benefits, scientific and technological potentiality and environment harmony, the present contribution of equipment industry to the national economy is reflected by the economic indexes. The future competitive ability of equipment industry, the sustainable development capacity and long-term benefit of equipment manufacturing industry are respectively reflected by economic indexes, scientific and technological indexes and environmental indexes. The index system reflects the speed and tendency of the evolution in time dimension, the overall layout and structure in space dimension, the scale and benefit in quantity dimension and the function and degree of equipment industry in level dimension.With the evolution track and the evolved structure of Chinese equipment manufacturing industry being studied, the dissertation supposes that the systemic evolution of equipment manufacturing is the interactive result of different equipment industries at microcosmic level. The logical feature of our research is the macroscopic property that divides from the top to down in the process of dynamic evolution of equipment manufacturing industrial system. The microcosmic mechanism and the operation mechanism is emphatically analyzed in this dissertation and we put emphasis on process on the limit of internal and external factors. The technological innovation, as a kind of dynamic ability, is an evolving process with characteristics of the path dependence. The innovation choice of the evolutionary process in the equipment manufacturing industry is influenced by the initial state as well as the gain and loss of the competition advantage. The evolution power of the equipment industry comes from the competition and cooperation inside the system. The primary condition of the systematic evolution is the competition leading to the tendency of becoming non-equilibrium unceasingly. The coordination and symbiosis which unite and enlarge certain tendency under non-equilibrium condition, dominate the whole evolution of equipment manufacturing industrial system. The potential coordination and competition mechanism among equipment industries is the decisive factor of the equipment industry evolution; other correlation parameters act as the external condition of industry mutation. Our equipment industrial system should be strengthened by utilizing the non-equalization, the localization, the regional superiority and the later-advantage.
