Complex products are a kind of products which have complicated demand, structure, production technology, manufacturing process, project management, and its innovation ability play a vital role in modern economy and social development. However, the complexity of the design processes lead to multifarious design parameters and constraints, uncertain design results, long lead time, high risk and cost. Therefore, theoretical studies and practical applications on design processes of complex products have been key issues for both academies and enterprises. With the development of design methods and digital design technology, researches of digitalization, integration and optimization for complex products design becoming hot topics in academic area. Furthermore, the tentative and iterative design processes may results in numerous design data with complicated coupled relations and different formats, which become the main sources of history design knowledge. Therefore, the efficient management and application of the knowledge contained in those data have a great impact on the sustainable development and competitive capability of the enterprise, and it remains a bottleneck of product design performance. Modular design is an effective method to decrease R&D costs and respond quickly to changing design requirements. Therefore, this paper adopts a business component based modular method to implement the integration management of data, resources and processes during the design processes, which can improve the design efficiency and quality of complex product designs. Main research works including:First, a formal definition of business component is given based on component technologies, an integrated framework is established and its compositions and architecture are descried respectively. A digital specialized design component is constructed for the high degree integration of design resources. Business component partition method is investigated.Secondly, the integration methods of different DOS/Windows design resources applied during design processes was discussed. Different user interfaces are customized for different resource versions. Intelligent agent is adopted to revoke multiple objects simultaneously by message pipe. The encapsulation and registry methods of different resources are studied. Thirdly, business component based data management method is explored. Considering the diversity of design data formats, a combined data storage mode was adopted for different data, i.e. RDB+Plain File+XML Schema, and a netted version model was designed based on object version and project version to implement the management of process data and phase’s data respectively. Key technologies of version merge and visualization were also discussed in implementation. Furthermore, management process of versioned data and the structure of the data version are represented.Fourthly, considering during the long life cycle of complex product design, the variability characteristics of business process logic, design logic and data logic may produce much heterogeneous engineering data. The integrated universal management of those data is of great importance to the design ruse and accordingly increases the design efficiency. Business component is adopted in this paper to implement the dynamic integration of these design logics, and then process template is designed for process-variable heterogeneous design data management. The process template design data integrated management architecture can provide an operational environment for the merge of engineering management and project management. And then process template based intelligent document automatic generalization method was proposed.Fifthly, based on the above researches, this paper has given an elementary research about the extraction and application of design knowledge across projects. The mapping templates (knowledge model) of different designs are established based on the statistical analysis of the input/output design data, which is solved through the method of Moore-Penrose generalized inverse. An initial input domain is formed through the extension and sampling of the referenced version data, and then the output parameters are gotten by the mapping model created. Under the restrictions of design requirements, the input parameters are adjusted gradually to reach the design objectives rapidly.Finally, the validity and efficiency of the methods proposed above was verified in the calculation of aircraft flight load and the design of aero-engine turbine.This paper has given an intensive study about the management and integration of data, resources and processes of complex product designs, which can support the cooperative processes of multidisciplinary optimization, implement the sharing of different design data and resources, decrease design lifecycle and costs, improve the innovative design capability.
