Organic-based Research On The Conservation And Renewal Of The Historical Towns And Villages In China

In the light of rapid development of the urbanization in China, there is increasingly concern on the conservation of beauty, distinctiveness, social fabric and vitality of the historical towns and villages. These heritages not only represent the cultural intelligence of the human, but show the harmony between human habitation and the natural world.This dissertation begins with the substantial surveys that have been made on the current situation of the historical towns and villages, posing the great needs and challenges to preserve these heritages; it will then go to the theoretical background, in terms of the philosophy of organism behind, and the sustainability in the field of architectural and urban development; after the comprehensive review of the ways of preservation adopted in different regions, as well as the insightful study on the characteristic of these towns and villages, frame of theory and the technical guidance that specific to the conservation will then be proposed; finally, exemplified by case studies, effective and practical solutions are provided, so as to build up the systematical and fundamental theories and guidelines for the preservation.To sum up, this dissertation provides the innovative ways and methodologies to preserve the historical towns and villages, as well as to shed the light on the strategy of conservation with new perspective and of great potential.
