If we take thorough observation of the current educational situation of the course of information technology in primary and secondary schools in China, we can find ‘technology only without concern about humanism ’. Thus, the way that the course is implemented is considered by many critics as ‘Microsoft Training Course’. In fact, the way that the course of information technology is implemented is related to the curricular development. However, in China, when we develop a new course, we usually take reference from the other subjects or directly use models from foreign countries so researches related to the curricular development in accordance with the realistic situation in our country are relatively scarce. Thus, the present research is mainly focused on developing experimental courses of information technology, that is, to carry out study in curricular development.The study will elaborate on the necessity of developing experimental courses of information technology. With a comparative approach, it makes induction of the goals, values, strategies and models of the experimental courses in other subjects including physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. Thus, the similarities between those subjects and the subject of information technology will be summarized and meanwhile, different features from which the course of information technology can take reference will be analyzed. After a lot of literature research, based on profound theoretical analysis and taking students’ personal development into consideration, the study finds the root of the value in the experimental courses of information technology, that is the comprehensive improvement in students’ capability in handling information. Thus, the necessity in doing research in the experimental courses of information technology becomes obvious.The research makes investigation into the feasibility of developing experimental courses of information technology. Theoretically speaking, the research develops the model of experimental courses in information technology, that is IP-COS Model, whose core lies in students’ capability of handling information. In fact, the core is also the root of the value in developing experimental courses of information technology. The shell part of the model involves fostering students’ cooperation, operational ability and science consciousness. This is the essential condition for promoting students’ capability of handling information based on the analysis of features of information society, information learning and the information subject. Based on the model, the research further defines the orientation of the experimental courses of information technology and the principles in content selection. In practice, experimental method is applied in the research. As for the unit entitled ‘Computer Viruses and Prevention’, the research selects the second-grade students from one of the junior high schools in Changchun as the teaching targets and carries out the study in teaching students experimental course of information technology. The results show that there are obvious differences in the test scores of students from the experimental group and the contrast group. The scores of students from the experimental group are much higher than those of students from the contrast group. Meanwhile, due to the change in the way of study, students become more active in classroom activities and their deep learning of knowledge can be more easily realized. So the present study proves the feasibility in developing experimental courses of information technology.When the value of developing experimental courses of information technology is obvious and the theories become increasingly complete, the research selects four units, namely, ‘The Development and Realization of Line-Tracking Robots’, ‘Identification Technology-Image Recognition’, ‘Sense and Control’ and ‘Development of LAN”, which cover representative knowledge structures and types of problems. Then, the research tends to develop experimental courses for students and meanwhile gives detailed analysis of and elaboration on the teaching design and procedure in each unit.Based on the work done aforementioned, the present research comes to the conclusion as follows: First, the key of learning information technology is experiencing. The experimental course will offer students experiential learning environment and enable students to take the initiative to construct knowledge through personal experience, thus promoting personal development. Second, the independence and active participation of students during the operational process of experimental courses will greatly promote deep learning. Third, experimental courses will be beneficial for the formation of cooperative study, uplifting students’ practical ability and qualities of study.
