Music education is both an indispensable part of aesthetic education and a necessary element towards realizing the function of aesthetic education.By taking on the background of aesthetic education reform and development in China,this paper selected the situation of music education in rural schools across the Hunan Province as the research target.With the aim of analyzing the state5 s policy on aesthetic education,aesthetic ideologies from both home and abroad,as well as the education theories for music-related disciplines,the research methods of literature research,statistical investigation,etc.were comprehensively employed to conduct an in-depth analysis on the current situation of the music education in the said rural schools from the perspectives of music education recognition,resource allocation for music education,the teaching process of its courses,and its teaching management.Based on the research results,this paper provided a set of suggestions for improving the quality of music education in the said rural schools.The dissertation is structured with 8 parts:In the Introduction,the origin of research was introduced,the selected literature was summarized,the research ideas and methods were proposed,and the theoretical and practical significance of the research was expounded.The first chapter provides an overview of the music education in the rural schools in Hunan Province.This chapter defined the concepts of aesthetic education reform and development,Hunan rural schools.Also,the planning and the execution of the survey,the content and question structure of the survey,the reliability and validity of the survey tools,the sampling method,as well as the information of the schools and samples.The second chapter is about the understanding of music education among the rural schools in Hunan.The understanding of the music education in the said rural schools were analyzed in detail from the following three aspects,i.e.,the nature,value,and status of aesthetic education;as well as from the following three dimensions,i.e.,the ideological origin,the policy orientation,and the status quo.The third chapter explores the resource allocation for music education across and in the rural schools.This chapter mainly focused on the aspects of teaching staff and hardware equipment,and evaluated the following aspects of the rural schools:the ages,educational background,and professional titles of the teaching staff;the nature of the job,i.e.,full-time,part-time,or professional music teachers;the salary,training,and education of the teaching staff;both the conventionally-used and the innovative teaching facilities and equipment;as well as the free teaching materials and textbooks during the period of compulsory education.The fourth chapter revolves around the quality of teaching provided by the music courses in the rural schools across Hunan Province.Highlighted in this chapter are the in-class teaching and practical activities in music education.In accordance with the curriculum standards and relevant policies,this chapter presented a comprehensive review on the curriculum design,teaching content,teaching methods,course evaluation,and practical activities taking place in the rural schools,after which the existing problems in the music course and teaching were pointed out.Chapter five is about music education management in the rural schools across Hunan.This chapter investigated the rural schools from the perspectives of the district and county education administrations and internally from the school itself in order to objectively evaluate the main issues related to music education management,including the establishment,personnel allocation,job responsibilities,and performance of the management institutions(posts).Chapter six presents a proposal for the improvement suggestions toward the music education in the rural schools across Hunan.In short,it was believed that:the understanding of music education can be promoted by improving people' s consciousness towards having a positive political standpoint,as well as their recognition towards aesthetic education;the music education resources provision can be optimized by coordinating teaching staff management and balancing hardware configuration;the refinement of music education management can be promoted through the professionalization of job-posts,professionalization of personnel,standardization of the system and informatization of approaches;finally,the music course management standardization can be promoted,by stirring up a "battle of music course",carrying out "music course standard acceptance",standardizing teaching content,and implementing the curriculum of activities.The conclusion provides a comprehensive and systematic summary of the main problems of the music education in the rural schools across Hunan,and in so doing pinpointing the shortcomings of the research,and clarifying the direction of future study.
