Abstract/Summary:
This research provides a brief history of the establishment of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and its attempts to build itself as a nation. Educating the populace was determined to be the best way to develop the country. Therefore, the UAE government decided to send students to the U.S. to be trained as teachers and to return to teach in their vocational/technical schools. It is the UAE's hope to build their native workforce and to free the country from its dependence on foreign workers who have helped to build and maintain its modern economy. The Emirati students who come to the Pennsylvania State University, Workforce Education and Development Program have to overcome many obstacles in order to achieve academically. In this qualitative study the participants in their interviews explained their learning and study habits they engaged in to complete assignments and pass tests. Emirati students, like other international students, struggle to understand the content of their courses and to complete tasks in a way to receive high grades. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the learning and study activities the UAE students engaged in while studying at the Pennsylvania State University.
