Abstract/Summary:
This study is about clinical decision making processes of MSW students in field practice, based on a qualitative analysis of interviews with recent graduates of an MSW program.;Results of the study suggest that social work students rely on problem solving and intuition as primary thinking tools. Supervision and consultation, although hard to access sometimes, is important both as a source of encouragement and as a catalyst to continued use of both problem solving and intuition.;These results suggest that social work education could benefit students by focusing more on the decision making process, including the role of intuition along with other thinking tools.
