Rabindranath Tagore was born in Calcutta,India;he is the most prestigious poet and writer in India.In 1913,he became the first Asian poet in history to win the Nobel Prize in literature with his work“Gitanjali”.Prior to this,Oriental literature had made few achievements in world literature;it was Tagore who opened the door of eastern and Western literature.Tagore,with his unique oriental characteristics and philosophy in his works was quickly praised and sought after by the majority of literary lovers.The "Tagore fever" in Asia first spread widely in Japan.At that time,some Chinese students and literary pioneers were studying in Japan began to have contact Tagore literature.From 1913,Tagore's literary works were gradually introduced to China,until 1923,in a short period of ten years,Tagore and his literary works have not only reached the point of being widely known,but also been admired by many Chinese scholars.With the increasing voicalization of Chinese literary circles for Tagore's works,and China,as an ancient oriental country with Asian civilization,has attracted Tagore's attention.Finally,in 1924,Tagore came to China for his first lecture at the invitation of Chinese scholars.Before Tagore officially came to China,newspapers and magazines at that time published or serialized Tagore's introduction and works like a hundred flowers blooming.Many literary youth also competed to translate Tagore's literary works during this period.In addition poetry and novels,some troupes rehearsed the drama based on Tagore's plays.For a time,there were numerous literary events appeared about "Tagore talks".After Tagore arrived in China,he was accompanied by some famous literati in the Chinese literary circle,such as Liang Qichao,Xu Zhimo,Lin Huiyin,etc.Tagore made 20 public speeches and dozens of small talks througout China.Tagore's trip to China not only gave a glimmer of hope to the Chinese literary youth at that time,but also built a bridge for the long-lasting friendship between China and India.However,Tagore's visit to China has not been unanimously welcomed by all over China.One after another,the voice of opposition has even been severely denied,mocked,ridiculed and personally attacked.This eventually led to Tagore's sad departure.In a word,Tagore and China,Tagore's visit to China,The Dissemination and Influence of Tagore's Thoughts and Works in Modern China are significant and worthy of in-depth research and thinking topic.In recent years,the exchanges and cooperation between China and India are increasing,more and more Indians are learning Tagore and Chinese and Indian literature,which leads to "Tagore fever" in India.Therefore,based on their own experience of learning Chinese and Indian literature,this paper focuses on “The Spread and Influence of Tagore's Thoughts and Works in Modern China ".Taking Tagore's visit to China as the starting point,this paper introduces in detail the process of translation,introduction,dissemination and acceptance of Tagore and his literary works in China.On the basis of a detailed description and introduction of Tagore's visit to China,this paper points out Tagore's important role in the cultural exchange between China and India,the establishment of China-Indian society and China University.Then it combs the views and attitudes of the supporters and opponents during Tagore's visit to China,and deeply analyzes the influence of Tagore on Modern Chinese literature.Finally,the paper analyzes the relationship between Tagore and modern Chinese writers to help readers better understand the relationship between Tagore literature and modern Chinese literature,Indian literature and modern Chinese literature.
