Take the water system and water diversion modeling of inland Qinhuai river as an example, the method and clew of integration of GIS (Geographical Information System) and environmental modeling are discussed in this paper.The present situation of GIS application in environment were reviewed, and three integration patterns including embedding coupling, loosing coupling and tight coupling were summarized. After comparison the advantage and disadvantage of these patterns, loosing coupling were applied in this paper.The main research contents include three parts: (1) Combined with the characters of inland Qinhuai river, the numerical modeling system for water diversion was set up.(2) Aquatic environmental GIS was developed based on integrated digital map of inland Qinhuai river with OLE. (3) Based on the Visual Basic advanced program language, the user interface of water quality simulation, visualization and GIS management were achieved.Simulated results and map were managed orderly through this system. Meanwhile, this research of integration GIS and environmental modeling is just a primary try.
