In view to the localization of traditional monitoring system and development status and trend of remote monitoring system, the paper puts forward a remote monitoring system, and introduces particularly the design and realization of hardware and software of the remote monitoring system: the devices are built up local area networks by CAN Bus, and dial-up through embedded communication system by modem. Remote PC, as the server and database, is programmed by Visual basic 6.0, and communicates with the locale devices through internet net and achieves remote monitoring. The details involve field bus technology the realization of remote communication for the embedded system programming method of above-computer, and development of realizing remote monitoring system for devices by internet on the basis of the above technologies.A hot topic - embedded internet, is also discussed in the paper, includes the realizing process about the embedded system which is how to interlink with internet net. The paper is also introduces simply CAN Bus technology. The system background software adopt Visual Basic 6.0 in programming in the pattern of client / server, and consist of user administration, interface administration, remote communication, database accessing, information query and warning function when network is out of the way, etc. The designing process of remote communication module and database's realization is emphasized thereinto. User administration, devices information, receive and transmit .data all set up own corresponding database, in order to check, amend and refresh for the user. Being added WINSOCK control, the background PC in the whole monitoring system works by the mean of the server application program, and has fixed IP address. On the other side, every locale works as a client program by setting SOCKET interface port, so that mutual communication can be reached through TCP connection between the above two kinds of programs. The system has passed the debugging procedure successfully and is of good stabilization, reliability and facility. It will be applied in the transformer substation.The main contents are introduced in this paper:(1) Development status and trend of remote monitoring system, and the intent and meaningof this paper studies.(2) Construct and design of the locale devices control networks.(3) The development of embedded system, and the study about how to the embeddedsystem connect with internet.(4) The exploitation of the server software in the monitoring system, including theintroduce of designing idea and important technology.(5) Debugging and analyzing on the monitoring system.
